Special Called Board Meeting Highlights  July 24, 2019  The Gates County Board of Education met in a special called session on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at the Board of Education Central Office. Chairman Ray Felton called the meeting to order at 9:03 a.m. The following board members were present: Mr. Ray Felton, Mr. Leslie Mr. Byrum made a motion to approve the agenda and Mrs. Boone seconded the motion. The  Byrum, Mrs. Sallie Ryan and Mrs. Glendale Boone.  motion passed unanimously.  There was a moment of silence followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.  Mrs. Glendale Boone made a motion to enter into closed session at 9:05 a.m. and Mrs. Sallie Ryan seconded the motion to discuss confidential personnel matters as allowed by North Carolina General Statute 143-318.11(a)(6). There was no discussion and the motion  carried unanimously.  The following personnel recommendations were approved:  1. NEWE HIRE 2. TRANSFER  Stephen Stiltner- Band Teacher Gates County High School (Tentatively Approved) Emily Santora - from Assistant Finance Director to Accounting Technician (effective date - August 12, 2019) & delay the restructuring oft the finance department for Mrs.  Sandra Pittman to make those changes.  3. TRANSFER  Donna Critcher - from Daycare Teacher to Daycare Supervisor (effective date - August  1,2019)  Mr. Byrum made a motion to approve Resolution to confer the duties of school finance officer to Dr. Barry Williams, Superintendent, until August 12, 2019, when the new finance officer assumes duties. Mrs. Ryan seconded the motion. There was no discussion and the Mrs. Ryan made a motion to adjourn. Mr. Byrum seconded the motion. The motion passed There being no further business Chairman Felton adjourned the meeting at 11:40 a.m.  motion passed unanimously.  unanimously.    RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF GATES COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS  WHEREAS, the Board ofEducation is currently without a permanent finance officer; and WHEREAS, the Board has hired a finance officer who will begin work on August 12, WHEREAS, the Board needs to appoint an officer or employee of the Board to serve as finance officer on a temporary basis, pursuant to North Carolina General Statute $115C-435; and WHEREAS, the Board deems it in the best interest oft the Gates County Schools, for purposes of efficiency, reliability and expediency, to confer the duties ofs school finance officer  2019; and  on the Gates County Superintendent of Schools as set forth below.  NOW, THEREFORE BE: IT RESOLVED, the Gates County Board of Education hereby confers the duties of school finance officer upon the superintendent of Gates County Schools, Dr. Barry Williams, until August 12, 2019 or such other date as may be subsequently determined by the Board. Further, it is resolved that the superintendent shall have all the duties and responsibilities oft the school finance officer pursuant to North Carolina General Statute $115C-  435 and -436 during this period.
