The scholarship is valued at $115,000 over four years and is the most prestigious merit award offered by the university. She plans to major in biology and biomedical engineering while on a pre-medicine pathway. 10. New Hope Elementary student Adele St. Romaine won the "Proudest Kid in Gaston 11. Pleasant Ridge Elementary competed in the North Carolina Council ofTeachers of Mathematics' state math fair. Emily Kiser's kindergarten class won first place in the K-2 class projects division. In addition, first grade students Esmeralda Miller and Anam Fatima won first place in the individual K-2 division, and third grader Golden McKinney was an honorable mention winner in the individual Grades 3-4 division. 12. South Point High School senior Colin McAlister was: named a Wood Family Scholar at 13. The South Point High School boys' tennis team won the 3A dual championship and finished the season with aj perfect 16-0 record. Shiv Patel and Brandon Cunningham won the doubles match, and Shiv Patel, the MVP, won his singles match. Other singles wins came from James Dover, Brandon Cunningham, and' Tyler Cunningham. Additionally, Asher Dover was named a 2024 N.C. Farm Bureau Sportsmanship Award 14. The South Point High School girls' soccer team secured their second consecutive trip to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 3A state championship. The team finished the season as Big South 3A Conference champions with a record of18-3-2, despite a loss in the state championship to. Jacksonville. Chairman Jeff Ramsey presented a Certificate of Recognition plaque to Mrs. Rudisill.  10    Mr. Todd Hagans announced the Blumey Awards will be held this weekend in Charlotte at the Belk Theatre. Wehave a number of students from Gaston County Schools that are among the nominees for the Blumey Awards. Mr. Hagans recognized Eric Cathey, Highland School of Technology who performed the role of Sam Carmichael in the spring musical production of Mamma Mia! at Highland Chairman Jeff Ramsey and Mrs. Dot Guthrie congratulated Ericand pictures were taken (a Certificate Mr. Todd Hagans recognized the Grier Middle Schools boys basketballteam. For the fifth time in school history, Grier completed a perfect 12-0 season and secured the Gaston County middle school boys basketball title. Under the leadership of Coach Alec Hudson, the team showcased exceptional talent and determination. This perfect season adds to Grier's legacy of success with previous unbeaten seasons and county championships in 2000, 2003, 2015, and 2017.The Knights also claimed county  SchoolofTechnology. Last week, Rich claimed victory in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association's 3A individual state golf championship at LongleafG Golf and Family Club in Southern Pines. Rich is the first golfer from Stuart W. Cramer to  win a state golf championship.  Chairman Jeff Ramsey presented a Certificate of Recognition to Rich. Dr. Bostic's last day with GCS with be mid-June.  12    Superintendent Houchard thanked Jack Brooks for serving as the interim for the Operations Superintendent Houchard introduced Bessie Harvey as the new Assistant Superintendent of Superintendent Houchard announced that graduation season for the Class of 2024 has started. Last Thursday, May 16, kicked off the two Early College graduation ceremonies. The Gaston Early College of Medical Sciences celebrated its first graduating class with 12 seniors, and the Gaston Early College High School had 47 seniors. Many of the graduates received their high school diploma on Thursday, and they also earned an associate degree from Gaston College. Our next graduation ceremonies are Wednesday, May 22. The Gaston Virtual Academy ceremony is at9:00 a.m. at the Gastonia Conference Center; Webb Street School's graduation is at 11:30 a.m. in the school's gymnasium; and Warlick Aradem/sceremonyl5at: 2:00 p.m. ini the school's gymnasium. On Friday, May 24, wehavegraduation superintendent Houchard announced that the School Nutrition Employee Appreciation Dinner was Superintendent Houchard announced the Evening of Excellence ceremony to recognize outstanding educators and announce our "Oft the Year" winners for 2024-2025 was held earlier this month. Itwas an outstanding event, and we would like to express our appreciation to Truist for sponsoring the ceremony again this year. We also would like to thank to Gaston County Education Foundation and Superintendent Houchard announced that we are moving forward with partnering with the Urban Institute at UNC-Charlotte to work on gathering up-to-date information about such topics as demographics, population trends, and housing and business development in Gaston County. This information will be used in our strategic planning efforts as we look: at growth and how to best meet Superintendent Houchard thanked all employees for their hard work to give us a strong finish. In return, these TAs would commit to teach in Gaston County Schools for at least four consecutive years. Contracts were executed with Gardner-Webb University and Belmont Abbey College to provide the classes for these individuals. We currently have 33 active participants enrolled with Gardner-Webb and nine active participants enrolled in Belmont Abbey. The previously approved funding for this initiative has beenexhausted. Additional funds amounting to approximately $360,000 for the Gardner-Webb students and $110,000 for the Belmont Abbey students is needed to complete the program.
