October 3, 2023  Town of Windsor Board Members:  Sorrylhaven't sent in an assessor report in ai few months.  Int the middle of July, Iwent to classes at Cornell. The New York State Assessor's Association puts on week-long classes in Ithaca every July. It'sa great way to get your continuing education and talk to other assessors in the: state. August, Iwas on vacation. Septemberi is always a very crazy month; school tax bills go out and everyone starts complaining to me. Idid about a handful of letters of apportionments. When taxpayers split up their land after March 15t, they call me in September wondering why the school is not split up and that is when Ihave to do al letter of apportionment. Ihave to see what assessment goes with the split of land or house and then split up the tax bill. Isend the letter to each party and the school tax collector. Inoticed in the middle of September, that one of my seniors that normally doesn't pay a school bill, had to pay over $150 this year and It thought something was wrong with her bill. Ifound out there was nothing wrong with it, the STAR exemption is now capped at a certain amount. lalso found out that you would receive way more money on the STAR credit check program than the STAR exemption. So, lalerted the people by my Facebook account and through the Windsor Facebook page. lam also sending out al letter to all taxpayers that currently have the STAR exemption on their parcel to switch to the STAR credit check program, you will receive more money that way. Iwill be sending out over 1200 letters on Wednesday, October 4th. It's been a very busy passed couple weeks. Iknow times are tough and I'm trying to let people know where they might be more money for you. Ini the next couple days, Iwill be ini training.
