MINUTES King City Council Regular Meeting June 03, 2024 The King City Council convened for its regular meeting at the King City Hall, Council Chambers, 229 S. Main St, King., on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 6:00 pm. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and make decisions on various city matters. Present at the meeting were Mayor Rick McCraw, Councilwoman Terri Fowler, Councilman Michael Lane, Councilman Tyler Bowles, City Manager Scott Barrow, City Clerk Nicole Branshaw, Intern City Engineer Ben Marion, Director of Finance and Personnel Susan O'Brien, City Planner Jon Grace, Police Chief. Jordan Boyette, Senior Center Director Paula Hall, Interim Water Plant Superintendent Mark Danley, Supervisor ofF Public Works Ricky Lewis, Superintendent of Public Utilities Robert Pettitt, Interim Superintendent of Public Utilities Chuck Moser, Assistant Fire Chief Jonathan Lane, Public Works and Public Utilities Employees G. Mayor Pro Tem Jane Cole was absent from the meeting. Mayor McCraw called the meeting to order. Chaplain Paul Norman offered the invocation. Mayor McCraw mentioned the community announcements listed on the agenda. Lane seconded the motion, which was carried by a unanimous vote of 3-0. Councilwoman Fowler made a motion to excuse Mayor Pro Tem Cole from the meeting. Councilman ADIUSTMENTS1 TO AGENDA PUBLIC COMMENT None Mayor McCraw opened the floor to receive public comment. 1. Dane Heath, representing the Downtown King Partnership, addressed the Mayor and Council, providing a réview of the successful Dinner on Dalton event. He expressed gratitude to the city staff and Council for their help and support, which contributed to the event's success. Mr. Heath proudly announced that the event raised a commendable twenty thousand dollars with 150 attendees. He eagerly anticipates the next event, the Oktoberfest 2. Dan Corder, from the Village of Tobaccoville, addressed the Mayor and Council, expressing his heartfelt thanks for the renewal of the Interlocal Agreement for Bulk Pickup with Tobaccoville. He particularly appreciated the opportunity for our staff to assist with the process again, a testament to their excellent work. Mr. Corder emphasized that he always enjoys working with our city staff, a sentiment that underscores the strong working on September 21, 2024. relationship between the two communities. Mr. Pettitt started with the King Water District System on June 6th, 1974. Robert has worked every job dealing with the water and sewer system, including installing water and sewer lines, reading meters, fixing leaks, and maintaining pump stations. Robert was the first employee to work the night shift at the City of King Water Treatment Facility as well. When the City of King purchased the water district system in 1989, Robert, along with other staff employed by the King Water District System, was employed by the City of King. Robert Pettitt will have served 50 years of service with the City of King's water and sewer system (35 years with the City of King) and will be retiring on. July 1*, 2024. PUBLIC HEARING FOR VOLUNTARY ANNEXATION REQUEST BY BENNIE & DOROTHY SULLIVAN. This will allow parking in marked areas of public streets in the downtown area of King but not allow parking in city-ownéd streets unless otherwise posted. This is an effort to clarify the city's ordinance for parking on public streets. This will be adopted under Ordinance No. 2024-07. Councilman Lane asked about the status of the digital sign and was told that all we are waiting on Councilwoman Fowler stated she attended her first Tourism Development Authority meeting in Stokes County, which was led by Tory Mabe. They learned that the Days Inn in King is now part of the Wyndham chain, and they paid roughly $2600/mo. in occupancy taxes last month.
