Glen Alpine Board of Alderman Regular Meeting Minutes Members Present: Mayor Benfield, Clerk Lalonde, R. Cox, S. Perkins, T. Helms, J. Miller, M. Lewis, Attorney R. Denton (New members were sworn in before meeting began) December 13, 2021 at 6pm CALL TO ORDER-Mayor Benfield called the meeting to order at 6pm NVOCATION-Moment of silence PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Carol Avery- Audit presentation-see attached & Lewis and welcomed Perkins back. MAYOR COMMENTS-Mayor Benfield introduced new members, Miller APPROVAL OF AGENDA-Motion made by Cox to approve agenda; Passed 5-0 APPROVAL OF DEPARTMENT REPORIS-Motion made by Perkins to approve APPROVAL OF MINUTES-Motion made by Cox to approve minutes; dept reports; Passed 5-0 Passed 5-0 PUBLIC COMMENTS- Reid Scott- Mr. Scott states that he is concerned about the Police Department, he had previously voiced a concern about the PO parking in the handicapped spot and now that the Town had moved the spot to the front of the building. He stated that if our PD was going to enforce the law, they needed to obey the law as well. Mr. Scott states that he isn't against the police, and he believes we need them, but that they needed to abide by the laws. He stated thati it is knew the board wanted to hire another officer but that it seemed as if we couldn't control what we have. He says we do not need another officer because we have one officer for every 395 people in our town. Our crime rate is 50% less that the state average. He says everyone wants the Town to do this or that, but with our fund balance we need to form a scholarship for future Police Officers or Teachers. NEW BUSINESS/ITEMS FOR DECISION Elect Mayor Pro Tem-Motion made by Lewis to nominate Cox as Mayor Pro Tem; Passed 4-0, Cox did not vote ARP-C COG/Businesses.Motion made by Helms to let COG oversee the ARP funds; Passed 4-1, Perkins voted against Grants-Adam Marlowe, Fire Chief-Motion made by Cox to approve grant applications; Passed 5-0 Truck donation from Brendletown FD-Motion made by Perkins to accept donation from Brendletown; passed 5-0 2022 Meeting Schedule-Motion made by Cox to approve 2022 meeting schedule; Passed 5-0 Motion made Cox to adjourn; Passed 5-0 Meeting adjourned at 6:45pm
