Glen Alpine Board of Aldermen Regular Town Meeting Minutes Members Present: Mayor Benfield, Clerk Lalonde, R. Cox, G. Meise, T. Suttles, T. Helms, Attorney Denton, S. Perkins (Perkins arrived late at 6:20) October 11, 2021, 6pm CALLTO ORDER- Mayor Benfield called the meeting to order at 6pm INVOCATION-Moment of silence, Mayor requested that we keep the families of Terry Campbell (former GAPD Officer) and LT. McMurtray (BCSO) in our prayers, as they recently passed. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE MAYOR COMMENIS-Mayor Benfield stated that the Town is working with City of Morganton to make sure all records are accurate and that everyone on the city sewer is paying the same surcharge. He stated that it has been brought to his APPROVAL OF AGENDA-Motion made by Cox to approve the agenda; Passed 4-0 APPROVAL OF DEPTARTMENT REPORIS-Motion made by Cox to approve APPROVAL OF MINUTES-Motion made by Cox to approve minutes; Passed 4-0 PUBLIC COMMENTS-DOUg Pitts attended the meeting, along with Michael Chatham asking for the Town to sponsor the Boy Scouts of America Troop for our community. Mr. Pitts stated that the Methodist church had recently pulled out, and that the Boy Scouts will lose their Charter (sponsor) as of 12/31/21 if they attention that not everyone is paying the surcharge. department reports; Passed 4-0 can'tfind anyone to sponsor them. OLD BUSINESS: Monthly Sewer Surcharge Update on ARP funds-Mayor stated that we still do not have the final guidelines from the Government on how funds can be spent, still waiting. COG has offered to help the Town, but not until the final guidelines are received. NEW BUSINESS: Halloween Festivities-The clerk is asking the Board to allow her to make treat bags and set up at the stage on 10/30 to pass out to the children. Boy Scouts-See Public Comment above Disposable of Property-Christmas decor ITEMS FOR DECISION: Sewer Surcharge-Motion made by Helms to have City of Morganton place a $6 Halloween Festivities-Motion made by Perkins to go ahead with Halloween Boy Scouts-Motion made by Cox to table the decision until November; Passed 5-0 Disposable of Property-Motion made by Perkins to discard old Christmas décor; surcharge on all sewer customers in the Town; Passed 4-0 festivities on 10/30; Passed 5-0 Passed 5-0 Motion made by Perkins to enter Closed Session at 6:37pm; Passed 5-0 CLOSED SESSION Litigation Motion made by Perkins to re enter Open Session at 7:14pm; Passed 5-0 Motion made by Cox to adjourn at 7;15pm; Passed 5-0
