The Finance and Personnel Subcommittee recommended the Board of Commissioners approve a grant appropriation for nine portable radios to bet funded by a 911 Public Safety Answering Point Granti in the amount Ag grant application for portable radios for $74,978.01 was approved by the North Carolina 911 Board for the 2023 Portable Radio PSAP Grant. The grant was created as an opportunity for 911 Centers to purchase portable radios for usei in the primary 911 center, the backup 911 center, andi in transit between thet two centers in the event of radio equipment failure at either location. Portable radios are note eligible to be purchased from the Emergency Telephone System Fund (ETSF). However, the 911 Board can award grants for non-eligible purchases such as the portable radio grant. The number of portable radios in the granti is based on the number The Catawba County Communications Center currently has Motorola XTS series radios thats serve this function today. Due to a radio system upgrade, these radios will no longer function on the VIPER system after June 30, 2025. On July 1, 2025, the State's VIPER system will be upgraded to Phase II, TDMA Trunking, to allow needed growth of the radio system. The Motorola XTS series radios currently in use do not support Phase II TDMA Trunking and will need to be replaced with ar radio capable off functioning on the upgraded system. The grant will allow the Communications Center to purchase Motorola APX series radios that are capable. The Catawba County Communications Center functions 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and relies on built-in redundancies like these radios to provide continuous service to citizens and firstr responders. This grant will fund the entire cost of the equipment. Therefore, no appropriation of County funds will be necessary. entitled Our Creative Community's Economic Impact. 9. The newi facility will be located at 2894 Mt. Olive Church Rd in Newton and will include a covered educaton/Cemonstration pole barn, education building, and storage space. The facility will provide educational programming and consultation to assist producers of cattle and forage increase profitability through improved management and product marketing, and to develop cattle related educational programs for youth to learn life skills relating to required grant agreement. cattle ranching.
