BURKE COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS 2128 SOUTH STERLING STREET-SUITE 100  MORGANTON NC: 28655 TUESDAY, JANUARY 09, 2024 REGULAR MEETING  Attending; LH Kirksey, Sandi Walker, Beverly Carlton, and Linda Walker. Absent: Anthony Iovino. Staff; Kenny Rhyne County Staff; ITI Director Scott Black and Daniel Lasher Guests: Carla Kincaid, Dot Williams (League of Women voters), and Barbara Myers. Chairman LH Kirksey called the meeting to order at 10:00AM, led the Pledge ofA Allegiance,  followed by a moment of silence.  Public comments;  Carla Kincaid had questions on important dates for the primary election and where to get information on rules Barbara Myers expressed appreciation for the addition of another Saturday for early voting and will work to get Sandi Walker made a motion to amend the agenda to add relocation oft two precinct polling places, add the Chairman's request to go into closed session and approve the agenda as amended.. All approved. Linda Walker made ai motion to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of December 12, 2023, as presented. Chairman LHI Kirksey welcomed Scott Black and Daniel Lasher to our meeting and thanked them for their time to talk with us about our website for the Board of Elections and answer any conçerns the board members had. Linda Walker expressed her ideas on the layout oft the web site and requesteda a different link for the agenda to Daniel suggested we also add any important dates for the election to our county calendar site as well. Interim director Kenny Rhyne presented the final list ofcandidate filings for the March Primary. He gavea The absentee ballot requests portal is now open. Some respondents have onlya asked for ballots for the general election. He will be contacting the voters making those requests to see ift they want primary ballots. Ballots for the primary have been proofed, ballots styles set, and stock has been ordered. L& At testing will be the first week of February or possibly the last week of. January. Kenny will notify board Kenny is getting the MAT teams ready and contacting the elder care facilities to assist them, Saturday February 24, 2024, 8AM -3 3PM, has been added to the early voting schedule per decision by the NC Sandi Walker has contacted the radio stations; WHKY in Hickory and' WMNC in Morganton. She will be a guest Beverly Carlton has been working on a video program for Compass Cable. She suggested we meet to put Linda Walker made a motion to have a special meeting to plan for the Compass video on January 19 at 10AM. Discussion was held on the need to relocate two polling locations. Linda Walker made a motion to make a resolution to relocate the Lovelady 1 precinct and the Icard I precinct locations and submit to the SBOE. Sandi Walker made a motion to go into closed session to discuss a personnel issue at 11:45AM.All approved.  for election procedure. Staffwill supply request. out voters.
