Madison Street, Whiteville, NC, 28472 The Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Whiteville was called to order on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at 6:30 p.m., at 317 S. Mr. Currie explained to Council that at team from the NC State University Coastal Dynamics Design Lab has contacted the City about developing a Community Flood-print. The Lab has worked with Lumberton and Princeville to develop the same information. This document had been used to apply for funding to aid the community to become more flood resilient. He explained that the idea is to use landscape planning to address land/water relationships. The process will take approximately 16 months to complete and the team has already made a visit to the Kevin Williamson MOVED to approve the Memorandum of Understanding with NC State University Coastal Dynamics Design Lab City. VOTE: 6-0 (Unanimous) Holden, Vickie Pait, Kevin' Williamson) Nays: 0 Absent: 1( (Tim Blackmon) Yeas: 6 (Terry Mann, Jimmy Clarida, Tim Collier, Helen B 9) COUNCIL COMMENTS Mayor Pro Tem Clarida reported that a pile of old mattresses are now gone Council Member Williamson stated that he was pleased with the removal of the trees downtown. He asked Chief Ipock for a report on the situation with Sandy Ridge Apartments. Chief Ipock reported that he was optimistic of improvements; he stated that a new management team was in place. Council Member Collier asked that Mr. Currie and Chief Ipock increase patrols around the neighborhood which Ms. Judy Nobles resides, she reported to Council Member Collier that break-ins are continuing. Mayor Mann reported that old mattresses and furniture continue to be dumped on the corner of Lee and Nance Streets and asked how the City may go about enforcing code enforcement regarding this matter. Discussion ensued. Mr. Currie advised that he would discuss the matter with Mr. Andy Thompson (Code Enforcement Contractor) how to more forward, including the possibiltiy ofs sending violation letters to the property owners where debris is being left. and thanked City Staff for removing them. 10) REPORTS 10.1) Manager's Update Mr. Currie reported on the following areas: 1)a post update on the ice storm from the previous weekend, 2) Lewis Smith Shopping Center demolition project, 3) Bids for Phase II of Mollies Branch sewer rehab, project begins at Main Street and runs across Franklin to Lift Station #1, and 4) Bid for Solid Waste Services and that the City should expect a price increase with the new contract due to increases in fuel and the Mr. Lowder provided and update on COVID-19 stats in our area. Ms. Williams reminded Council that VC3 would be in Council Chambers on January 28, 2022 from 1pm to 5pm to issue new iPads to members Monthly departmental reports for December, 2021 were received by the following departments: City Clerk, Economic Development and Planning, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Inspections, Parks and Tim Collier MOVED to approve the adjournment of the regular meeting on CPI. of Council. 10.2) Monthly Departmental Reports for December 2021.
