There is a lot oftraffic going up and down Summit St. due to the Roundabout construction and wishes there was a sign to notallow trucks to go through the neighborhood. 1. June 2023 minutes and c) Walnut Cove Fire Department quarterly report. Calls ran in. June - 5 building fires, 99 calls with assisting EMS and other. They had 2 CPR saves also. The Fire Department installed three new AED devices. One at Brookhaven Baptist Church, the Palmetto Wainut Cove Fire Department blood drive, July 29, 2023 from 10-2 and will do another Jason Fariss is the new Fire Marshal for the Town of Walnut Cove and started in Julywith Commissioner Mitchell seconded. Old Business a) Children's summer program- Durward Bennett, Palmetto theatre, spoke about having a movie day for kids in the summer. Town Manager, Greenwood, asks how can we keep it low cost for the kids to come having b) The Town and the Cove Group are hosting a Back to School event in Fowler Park on c) Town Manager, Greenwood, mentioned the pool day would not work due to needing am membership and the fee for that is $375.00 per family and you would have to have d) The Walnut Cove Public Library is hosting a Back to School Event on Tuesday, August popcorn and a drink. Cove Group Budget a) Mayor Brown would like to see a breakdown of the 2023/24 Budget for the Cove Town manager, Greenwood met with Jimmy Flythe with Duke Energy and he said theyhaves aone million dollarprojectt to upgrades poles andline throughouttha Town, and would like to give a new appearance on the sidewalks and streets. We don'twant to add new banners to b) Mayor Brown asked about the events being hosted by The Cove Group and what is the money being spent on and would like it to be itemized. Public cworkers shouldn't have to made to work on a Saturday for an event that is nota Town event. Commissioner Mitchell stated we need documentation on how the moneyisspent and not keep visiting the same thing over and over. We need to vote for a budget for the Cove Group. Mayor Brown said official documentation has to be presented for auditing. Commissioner Mitchell stated a written contract between the Town Board and Cove Group needs to be presented. Commissioner Bennett said the Town could give the first draw of money to the Group and collect receipts and ift they aren'tusing the money correctly or turned in, they wouldn'treceive the next quarters payment. old poles. Motion carried unanimously. Open meeting from closed session 8:11 pm. c) Date for fall clean up - September 18-22 and September 25-29, 2023. This announcement will be put on August bills and online. Commissioner Bennett made a motion to set the dates for the fall cleanup for Sept 18- 22 and September 25-29 and Commissioner Mitchell seconded. Motion carried unanimously. 4. Departmental Report- a) Bids for grading playground. Items for General concern Commissioner Hairston stated that there was some concern on how the Mayor and the Board have been making decisions without consent of the whole Board and the Mayor interrupted with disagreement on what Commissioner Hairston was saying. Mayor Brown asked for the meeting to be adjourned and there was a motion by Commissioner Mitchell to adjourn and a second was not made. Mayor Brown excused herself from the meeting and the Mayor Pro-Tem, Elwood Mabe carried out the meeting and eventuallya second was made by Commissioner Hairston. Meeting was then adjourned at 9:08.
