Town of Walnut Cove Board of Commissioner Meeting January 16, 2024 Special Meeting Minutes Members Present: Nellie Brown - Mayor Elwood Mabe - Commissioner Johnnie Hairston - Commissioner Kim Greenwood -1 Town Manager Amanda Bryant Town Clerk Thomas Mitchell - Commissioner Chad. Jarvis- Commissioner Absent Meeting Call to Order: Mayor Nelli Brown @ 6:04Pm Pledge of Allegiance: Town Manager Greenwood Invocation: Town Manager Greenwood Adjustment to the Agenda -No adjustments Public Comments -No public comments Consent Agenda Ar motion was made by Commissioner Hairston to consent to the agenda. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Mabe. Motion carried unanimously. New Business Mr. Campbell gave a brief overview of his resume including educational background along with his current position with: surrounding municipalities with the City of Mt. Airy, the Town of Dobson and Town of Rural Hall. Mr. Campbell stated he enjoyed participating in local government municipalities. Town Clerk Bryant read an email from Commissioner Mitchell and a letter from Commissioner Jarvis, both who were unable to attend due to prior commitments. Both Commissioner Mitchell and Commissioner. Jarvis both stated their support in appointing Mr. Campbell as the interim Town Attorney. Mr. Campbell stated he wanted to clarify one statement in Commissioner Jarvis' letter, he would like to participate in the opportunity to apply for the position ofa a permanent Town Attorney for Walnut Cove but did not want to presume he would automatically be given the position. He does have interest in becoming the permanent town attorney for the Town. Mr. Campbell stated he prefers local municipal governments Mayor Brown: stated she appreciated his introduction and seems to have a lot of experience. Town Manager Greenwood extended an invitation to the League Diner on Thursday but Mr. Campbell will be unable to attend that evening. Mr. Campbell stressed he would be at all meetings, he felti iti is important over county governments, hei is al labor of love for him. 1 for him to attend all meetings. Commissioner Mabe stated previously it was only required to attend a percentage oft the meetings and charge an hourly fee. Mr. Campbell stated he has at flat rate of $1500 per month instead of hourly, which makes billing simpler for alli involved and he would be at all Ar motion was made by Commissioner Hairston to appoint Mr. Hugh Campbell as Interim Town Attorney for the Town of Walnut Cove.
