TOW OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on July 9, 2018 al 8:00 PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman David Dunn, Alderman Todd McMillen, Alderman Dennis Smith, Alderman Billy Whitford and Alderman Earl Wright. III. Invocation by Vernon Edwards. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman Smith made a motion to approve minutes as corrected. Motion was seconded by Alderman Dunn and carried. Vote Approval of minutes from public hearing for FY 18-191 Budget. Alderman Whitford made a motion to approve minutes as corrected. Motion was seconded by Alderman Smith and VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman McMillien made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Whitford and carried. Vote 5-0. Approval ofbid for Insurance with Whitford Insurance. Alderman Smith made a motion to pay first installment to Whitford Insurance for Insurance coverage for the town. Motion was seconded by Alderman Wright and carried. Vote4-0. Alderman Whitford was not VII. Police Report. Police Report presented by ChiefJenkins. June 4-6 was able to attend the end ofyear awardsleelebrations at Vanceboro Farm Life Elementary. Attended Servant Leadership training. Sgt. Calloway attended gang school June 13-15 and learned information that will bel helpful to this community. Held our first meeting for National Night Out which will be held on August 4th from 6-9 p.m. Attended a Web X meeting which will roll out soon, we as officers will be able to view any school in North Carolina and see the layout of the: school and see if: an active shooter is in a certain area. This will be a helpful tool to law enforcement. Attended an active shooting training at Craven Community College with other local law enforcement agencies, this was a great training for all to work together in case it truly happens. Wel held a DWI checking station on the 5-0. carried. Vote: 5-0 able to vote. 29th which resulted in 33 charges. Wen now have around 8280 safety points in the VIII. Mayor Report. Thanks to Chief. Jenkins for his repore with other law enforcement agencies, he is doing a great job. Thank you to Donald Phillips for upgrading our town park. Hope everyone had a safe and fun filled July 4th holiday. Officer Whaley, myself and Alderman McMillen are celebrating birthdays this month. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the employees and families of Craven Correctional Facility that lost two oft their correctional officers this month. Waste Industries is buying out Pak R Disposal and will honor the current contract with the town. The ditch work at Buck Lane has been completed and the drain pipe is clear. Attended thel Medical Center Board Meeting and discussed funds that are available for a dentist and eye doctor to come to town. Street paving will be done at some point in the future. Library windows have been installed and looks good. Vernon Edwards and Jimmy Jenkins both received their half year evaluations and are doing great. Appreciated Public Works Director, Vernon Edwards, for 41 years of service. Bailey Lane Water Tank has been emptied and things are going fine. Hopefully it'll be back running soon. Wewilll have aj prescription drop off installed at the Police Department for unwanted prescription pills, this will be available for use within a few weeks. Installed a water/sewer tap: at 451 Buck Lane for a new modular home to be placed. Clean Sweep will be the first Saturday in November if: any organizations are interested in helping clean up the roadways, they will be meeting at wC Park. Hosted a mayor's conference herei in town this month. Wewill be applying fora grant for the Clean Water Act through East Carolina Solutions again this year. Making Summer Safe was our topic for our Community Watch meeting this month. Our Police Department offers security checks to our residents when they are going to be out of town. Alderman Smith - Thanked Vernon Edwards for his years of service and dedication to the town. Healso thanked the Police for checking his home while he was out of town. Alderman Whitford -Thanked Beverly Drake for her hard work the last few weeks. He iswilling to work with Lou Ann on the park.
