TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on March 4, 2019at8 8:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Swearing in of new Alderman. Swore in Stephen Belrose as Alderman. III. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Stephen Beirose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Todd McMillen, Alderman Dennis Smith, and Alderman Billy Whitford. IV. Invocation by Alderman Smith. V. Pledge of Allegiance. VI. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman Smith made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Whitford and carried. Vote: 5-0. VII. Approval ofCash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Smith made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Cannon and carried. Vote 5-0. VIII. Executive Director of Safety and Corporate Training, Eddie Foster from Craven Community College. Mr. Foster made us aware ofaj program being offered through Craven Community College and BSH Home Appliances in New Bern. Students who complete the program will start in a temporary position with BSH which could later be aj permanent position. Class starts March 11 and will run from 1-5 p.m. daily IX. Police Report was presented by ChiefJenkins. Met with local agencies and ALE Gaming Commission regarding sweepstakes gaming. A new policy was added to deal with juveniles for the upcoming law change. Attended the quarterly Crisis meeting with school officials. Attended the Alice training with law enforcement-new school training at Vanceboro Farm Life. Royce Publications came in to work on the 2019 calendar. We spoke at the driver's education class at West Craven High School. The winner for Do the Right Thing for February was Siana Roundtrec. All radars have been calibrated. Ir met with the First Sergeant Dudley with the NCSHP, troop A, discussed ways to communicate and work together to combat the road safety of the motoring public. March 16" is our pork chop plate sale. Monday through Friday at the New Bern campus. X. Mayor's Report. Signed contract with Carr, Riggs and Ingram for 2018 audit. Town ofVanceboro and Craven County owns the property at the end of Arnold Street. We have no birthdays this month for the Town. Mr. Amos Dawson, resident oft the Town passed away; please keep his family in your prayers. They will be holding a special election to replace the late Congressman Walter B. Jones. Mr. Linwood Braxton ofVanceboro passed away; please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. Bailey Lane water tank has letters on it. The hole on Main Strect by the manhole has been fixed. Carolina East Medical Center has been listed as one oft the top 5 hospitals in the state. T-ball signups has started; we have registration forms available at the Town Hall. The basketball court should be poured by the end of the week. Trees have been trimmed here at the Town Hall. Ispoke with Craven County Commissioner Tom Mark about funding for the Richard W. Bowers' Education and Fitness Park. Attended the Boy Scout dinner hosted by the Vanceboro Rotary Club. They do a lot for our community and meet at Vera's Diner. I picked up trash out by Celestial Memorial Gardens, please pick up litter and report litterers to authorities. Ivisited the History Museum here in Town which is operated by Mrs. Janis Cannon. The museum is open on Thursday and Sunday if you' re interested in viewing some history of Vanceboro. Alderman Keith Cannon will be on the Library Board. Former resident of Vanceboro, Von Lewis, was a cast member of Green Book who won an Oscar. We are proud ofhis accomplishments; it's great to have: a local win such an award. XI. Vanceboro Strawberry Festival has placed a new sign up on Hwy. 43. We now have around 11 Alderman McMillen thanked Chief. Jenkins and the other officers for speaking to vendors signed up and have 10 sponsors for the event. the driver's education students. Alderman Smith welcomed Alderman Belrose to the board. Alderman Whitford welcomed Alderman Belrose to the board. XII. Public Comment. Assistant Manager, Elizabeth Bilodeau with CravenWorks out of New Bern, NC attended the meeting to let the community know that there is going to be a job fair on March 22, 2019 from 1-6 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church in New Bern.
