TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on May6, 2019 at 8:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom IC Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call' Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Stephen Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Todd McMillen, and Alderman Dennis Smith. Those Absent: Alderman Billy Whitford. III. Invocation by Alderman McMillen. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman Smith made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman McMillen and carried. Vote 4-0. VI. Approval ofCash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Smith made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Cannon and carried. Vote 4-0. VII. Police Report was presented by Chief. Jenkins. Met with officer's to discuss security for the Vanceboro Strawberry Festival and parade. Do the Right' Thing winner for April was Chris Argueta. Our National Night Out/Back to School Bash will be held on August 10" this year. Weare planning to incorporate other schools and awards will be given out. We are on the waiting list for the DARE class in August. VIII. Mayor's Report. The Town collected $1,079.82 in April through Debt Setoff. Budget workshop will be held on May 14"at5 5j p.m. Craven County Landfill will be holding al Municipal Day on June 5, 2019,ifany of the Aldermen are interested in attending let the clerk know. Employees John Raines and Michael Bryant will be taking their exams in the next few weeks for Wastewater and Water. Craven County Solid Waste and Recycling will be changing their pickup to one time per month, and each resident will receive a 96 gallon cart. The fee will be voted upon and should range between $56-$60 per year. Happy Birthday to town employee John Raines. Mrs. Barbara Watson, Alderman Belrose's mother-in-law, passed away. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. The goals for the basketball court should be up soon. We: appreciate Alderman Cannon for alll he does with the Vanceboro Strawberry Festival, it was a huge success. The' Town Hall willl be closed on May 27"h in honor ofMemorial Day. Congratulations to Democrat Allen Thomas, he will be running for the US House Representative. The Republican Party will be voting again on July 9t to see who will run against him in the November elections. Attended the ribbon cutting for West Craven High School Eagle Boutique. Many thanks to Matt Montayne, Public Works Director with the City of New Bern, for sweeping our streets before the Strawberry Festival. Thanks to. Alderman Smith and his son Dylan for the library beautification project. Thanks to Stacey Lewis, Fire Chief for watering the grass beside the basketball court. Striping should be complete soon. The rules have been placed on the court and we should have our ribbon cutting soon. Thanks to Sheriff Chip Hughes for being involved in our parade and interacting with our residents at the festival. IX. Alderman Reports. Alderman Belrose thanked everyone for the flower that was sent during the passing should be starting soon. Vanceboro Strawberry Festival went great as well as the parking. Security went well at the event. Town employees did a great job setting Alderman McMillen thanked the Public Works employees for fixing the water at the Alderman Smith thanked Vernon for the' Town looking nice. He also thanked Vernon for his response on the sewer backup and calling out a contractor quickly. Mrs. Kim Thorn of 303 Arnold Street advised of a sewer blockage which took place on March 4t"a at her residence that she rents out.
