TOW OF VANGRBORO BOARD OF ADERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on July 8, 2019 at8 8:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Stephen Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon (8:12 p.m.), Alderman Todd McMillen, Alderman Dennis Smith and Alderman Billy Whitford. II. Invocation by Alderman Smith. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman McMillen made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Whitford and carried. Vote VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Smith made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman McMillen and carried. Vote 4-0. VII. Police Report was presented by ChiefJenkins. We assisted Vanceboro Farm Life Elementary 2md Graders on a walk around Town. While visiting the bank, post office and Vera's Diner wei instructed the kids on crossing the roads safely. Attended a juvenile meeting regardimg the law change that will be in effect on December 15. Attended an internal affairs class in Pitt County. Assisted Craven County Sheriff's Office in aj jail search on June 18". National Night Out/Back to School Bash will be on August 10t from 61 to 9 p.m. The grant we were awarded in VII. Mayor's Report. AIA Grant is underway for the Town, they are locating the sewer lines and collecting information, this should be completed over the next few weeks. Met with aj planner from the N. C. Department of Transportation regarding the 2019 Bicycle & Pedestrian Planning Grant Initiative. Grass season is upon uIS and we: ask residents to keep their yards mowed and looking nice. Once aj property is posted for an ordinance violation, the owner has 15 days to comply, if not the' Town will hire someone to mow the Iawn, at this point it will be added to the property taxes. Spoke with Samantha Burdick, Eastern Carolima Council; regarding a Resiliency plan from Hurricane. Florence, most of the information didn'ta apply to the' Town directly. The Police Department was awarded ag grant for $24,000 toj purchase Oculus, and two in-car radios. The Town was awarded $20,000 from Craven County to be used to expand the Richard W.1 Bower's Education & Fitness Park. Anthony Wright, former graduate of West Craven High Schooi and retired NFL player, was shot a week ago and is recovering from his injuries. Please keep him and his family inj your prayers. Thank, you to Alderman Smith and Alderman McMillen for replacing the shingles at the library. Craven County will be implementing thei new recycling plan on October 1. Each resident should receive a 96 gallon cart, recyclables should be picked up oncej per month and itv will cost $60 per. year. Attended the CRC meeting - ifyou are interested in a career they have twelve vacancies open at this time. IX. Alderman Reports. Alderman Beirose attended the Municipal Day at the Tuscarora Landfill. It was neat to see. how iti is managed and how the process works. Alderman Cannon had no comment. Alderman McMillen is collecting information for Phase II of the park (playground sets with climbing capabilities, slide and swings). Alderman Smith had no comment. Alderman Whitford attended the Vanceboro Ruritan Club's 25; years ofs service to the Vanceboro community. It was nice to seel how they specialize in helping people in our community with multiple disasters they face. Ifyou have any items to donate, that would be: a great resource to give to. X.
