TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on August 5, 2019 at 8:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Stephen Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Dennis Smith and Alderman Billy Whitford. Those Absent: Alderman Todd McMillen. III. Invocation by Alderman Cannon. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman Whitford made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Smith and carried. Vote 4-0. VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Smith made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Whitford and carried. Vote 4-0. VII. Police Report was presented by ChiefJ Jenkins. Final preparations have been made for National Night Out, it will be held Saturday August 10th from 5:30 to 8:30. We hosted a DWI checkpoint on the 13"; we: are planning to do one once ai month. Police dog Mags is doing well. She has been running track once or twice a week. We have been posting properties for grass, and it may be necessary to update ordinance regarding height for grass. Craven County Sheriff Department sent out county wide letters on Friday to all sweepstake businesses, they have seven days to cease. VIII. Mayor's Report. An appreciation card was received from Janice Jordan family thanking the' Town for the flowers. Happy Birthday's this month to Public works employee Pernell Fields, Officer Michael Anthony, and Alderman Keith Cannon. Happy Anniversary to Alderman Whitford celebrating 41 years of marriage. Recent deaths were Greg Ross, Alderman Whitford's dog, Craig Gaskins, James W. Smith, and Mike' Twichell's father. Please keep these families in your prayers. NNO is August 10th please encourage people to come out, help spread the word. Updates for the park: the $20,000 was received from Craven County, we: are still waiting on the $50,000 from State. Alderman McMillen and Imet with the playground equipment guy, electrical service was installed, met with Bobby Cahoon for observation deck and we are hoping that the $50,000 can be used for this phase. People with AIA grant are still working around Town. Election filing for Board of Alderman has ended and election is November 5th. We have six running for Alderman seats. U.S. district house elections will be held September 10th. Basketball court is still having good use, having somewhat ofs a litter problem but not too bad. Next BOA meeting will be September gth. Sent al letter to the State for sewer plant to be downgraded back to a grade 2, haven't heard back yet. Assistant Clerk will soon be delivering baby, best wishes. In November there will be edging the curb side and ditch mowing, Friday August gth Keith Kidwell will be having a meeting in the board room: from 6-8:30pm. Craven County Board of] Education is no longer funding high school sports. Youth football is about to start for ages 4-12. September 23rd; is the first WCHS football game of the season, come out and support our local high school. We will be planting trees in front of sewer plant soon. Prayers for the families involved in the mass shootings in Texas and Ohio. Sheriff's Department is taking over animal enforcing. We will be saving $600 a year on cameras since we switched to CenturyLink. Phonetree no longer offers texting capabilities. We encourage online billing and automatic draft. Anthony Wright is out of] hospital and doing well, expecting a full recovery. Elections for the Town will bel November: 5th. November 26" will be our Thanksgiving lunch for employees. On December 5"at 7 p.m. we will host our Annual Tree Lighting at the' Town Hall, the employee Christmas Lunch will be on the 23"d. The auditor will be here this week closing out 2018 and 2019 budgets. IX. Alderman Reports. Alderman Belrose thanked Public Works for getting tree that fell in his yard.
