TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthlymeeting on October 7, 2019, at 8:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom LC Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Stephen Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Todd McMillen, Alderman Dennis Smith and Alderman Billy Whitford. III. Invocation by Alderman Whitford. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman Smith made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Whitford and carried. Vote5-0. VI. Approval ofCash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Smith made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman McMillen and carried. Vote 5-0. VII. Police Report was presented by ChiefJenkins. Thanked the officers for their services and dedication during Hurricane Dorian. Attended an Ethical Leadership Workshop on September 11" and 12th. Assisted VFLES this month with K-9 Mags for the kids. Signed a Task Force Agreement to provide mutual aid with multiple agencies in Craven County. Do the Right Thing winner for September was Bre'Niya Vega Brown -2nd Grader. We received the Grant Award Letter for the Governor's Crime Commission grant for $24,389.76. Radar sign has been ordered should arrive in the next couple ofweeks. VIII. Mayor's Report. North Carolina Representative Keith Kidwell has called and stated that we will be downgraded back to an. II at our Wastewater Plant. We should receive a letter from the State soon about the downgrade. Greg Murphy won the special election held in September. Attended the CRC meeting there is currently 12% vacancy for Correction Officers. Recycling for our Town residents (those within the city limits) will begin on October 17th. Trunk or Treat will be held on October 31* at the Vanceboro United Methodist Church. The Town will help provide extra trash cans, police cars, and the police will block the roads to help keep the kids safe during the event. Thanks to Vanceboro United Methodist Church and other area churches that gives our kids a safe place to be for Halloween. Our light meter is now working at the basketball court. Limbs from Hurricane Dorian have been picked up. The limbs will be mulched again by the end of this year. Radar sign has been ordered for the Police Department. The old radar trailer is working again. Air conditioner and the awning have been repaired at the' Town Hall from Hurricane Dorian. Fencing work should be done soon at the Water Plant. Main water line break last month set the Town back about $16,000. We appreciate James L. Cayton Associates, Inc. for their quick response in getting this repaired. Thanks to Alderman Smith for keeping our library spruced up. Assistant Clerk should be returning to work on October 17th. WCHS tennis court lights have been approved, the work should be complete soon. We are still waiting for the $50,000 from the State for Phase II of our Richard W. Bowers Park. All Town street lights were converted to LED a couple ofyears ago, ifyou see any lights not working please let the Town Hall know so it can be reported and repaired. Edging and curbing is about 50% complete. Ordered a park bench for the basketball court. The Police Department grant packet for $24,389.76 will be sent in this week. College of Knowledge will be opening this Saturday, October 12th at 6 p.m. for their first auction. Paw Paw's Thrift Store is back open. Would love to see some. more businesses come to Town such as: restaurants, exercise, eye doctor, dentist, and a hardware store. Thanks to the churches for supporting the WCHS teams with a meal before their home games. IX. Alderman Reports. Alderman Belrose stated there were excessive amounts of cats in the neighborhood. Alderman Cannon has started meetings for the Strawberry Festival. VFW will Inquired of replacing water lines throughout Town. continue to cook the barbeque and chicken. Alderman McMillen had no comment. Alderman Smith had no comment. Alderman Whitford stated he has enjoyed working with Alderman McMillen on the board. However, today was two years that Mr. Bowers' had been gone. He is still missed. X. Public Comment. No Comments. XI. Adjournment.
