TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on November 4, 2019 at 8:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Stephen Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Todd McMillen, Alderman Dennis Smith and Alderman Billy Whitford. III. Invocation by Alderman Smith. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman Smith made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Whitford and carried. Vote5-0. VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Whitford made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Smith and carried. Vote 5-0. VII. ABC Board Presentation. Chairman Chip Chagnon of the Craven County ABC Board presented their Annual Briefing to the Town. Craven County ABC had $11.4 million in sales. They are required to give 7% to help with the anti-underage drinking campaign and the opioid crisis. VIII. Police Report was presented by Chief. Jenkins. Spoke to the VFW about the Do the Right Thing Program and they are interested in making a donation. The Mayor and Ii fed the students at VFLES & WCHS on the 17th. The winner for Do the Right Thing was Jackson Daley -2"d Grader. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Callaway in the passing of his mom. We delivered 150 Ibs of medication for the Fall drop off this year. Trunk or Treat at VUMC was a success this year. Radar sign is working and Iam hoping to have some statistics from the radar signs at the next meeting. IX. Mayor's Report. Alderman Smith will be celebrating a birthday this month. Our heartfelt thoughts prayers go out to Officer Callaway and his family during this time ofl loss. The Town Hall will be closed on November 11th in observance of Veteran's Day. Thank you to all who are serving for our freedom. Trunk or Treat was the most successful one yet. Thanks to the Vanceboro Methodist Church for hosting this event each year. Tree Lighting will be on December 5th at 7 p.m. The State is still on a lockdown for $50,000 they approved for our park. Paperwork has been sent in for the police grant. Thanksgiving meal for our town employees will be November 26th at12 p.m. Each employee will be given a turkey for Thanksgiving and a ham at Christmas. Park bench came in for the basketball court. Rotary club is planning to donate another park bench soon. Christmas decorations will start being put up in town on the 25th. Edging oft the sidewalks and curbing is complete. Ditch mowing is about 60% complete. Elections are tomorrow at the Vanceboro Fire Department. We are glad to have our. Assistant Clerk Brittany Mumford back with us. Appreciate all she and the Town Clerk do for the Town. Wewill be swearing in our new board members at the December Board of Alderman meeting. WCHS football team is the Conference 2A champs...Way to go. Eagles!! New Bern and West Craven game will be this Friday night at WCHS, come out and support our school. Recycling program is up and running, the next collection date for us will be November 14". Weares still waiting for the fence work at the Water Treatment Plant to be done. Ihelp serve meals at the VFLES and WCHS on the 17th oflast month, it was nice. Craven County Recreation Department is doing signups for basketball; ify you are interested you can stop by the Town Hall and get registered. Vanceboro Cemetery has been cleaned up and looking better. Limbs have been picked up and will be mulched at the end of the year. X. Alderman Reports. Alderman Belrose stated he had enjoyed serving on the board next to Alderman Alderman Cannon wished Alderman Whitford well. He attended the library meeting, thanked Alderman Smith and the Town for all they do for the library. The library has fiber optics available now. They will be implementing new programs at the library soon. Vanceboro United Methodist Church will be having the nativity Alderman McMillen stated he had enjoyed sitting next to Alderman Whitford on Alderman Smith stated he had enjoyed working with Alderman Whitford for the last eight years on the board. Thanked Thad Jones for his help with the camode at Alderman Whitford stated he has enjoyed working the last eightyears on the board.
