TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on December 2, 2019 at 8:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Stephen Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Todd McMillen, Alderman Dennis Smith and Alderman Billy Whitford. III. Invocation by Alderman Whitford. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman Whitford made a motion to approve minutes as corrected. Motion was seconded by Alderman McMillen and VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Whitford made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Smith and carried. Vote 5-0. carried. Vote 5-0. VII. Sine Die Present Board. VIII. Administer Oaths. Oath for Mayor. Braxton was administered by the Town Clerk. Oaths for Board of Alderman were administered by Mayor Braxton. IX. Appointments. Mayor Braxton made the following appointments: Alderman Smith - Mayor Pro-Tempore Alderman McMillen to be the representative for the East Carolina Council. Alderman Cannon to be the representative for the Library Board. X. Planning & Zoning Board. Lou Powell was nominated to replace Alderman Jones on the Planning and Zoning Board. Alderman Smith made a motion to close nominations. Motion was seconded by Alderman McMillen and carried. Vote5-0. Lou Powell is the new planning and zoning board member. XI. Police Report was presented by ChiefJenkins. Assisted River Bend Police Department with a DWI Checking station this month. Firearms training have been completed for 2019. Do the Right Thing Winner for November is Skylie Hawkins - Kindergarten. Officer Whaley attending the juvenile update seminar. Radar sign is working great. Will be meeting with an IT person to work on getting the statistics for the radar sign. Manpower is ready to assist with the Christmas Tree Lighting this week. Radios came in this week. We have provided security for the ABC Store XII. 2020 Holiday Schedule. Alderman Smith made a motion to adopt the 2020 Holiday Schedule. Motion was seconded by Alderman Cannon and carried. Vote 5-0. XIII. 2020 Board of Alderman Meeting Schedule. Alderman McMillen made a motion to adopt the 2020 Board of Alderman Meeting Schedule. Motion was seconded by XIV. Mayor's Report. Hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving and spending time with family and friends. Birthdays this month is Public Works employee, Michael Bryant. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of Emogene Mcglohon and Janice Green. Thanked Alderman Billy Whitford for the eight years of service to the Town. Employee Christmas dinner will be December 23" at 12 p.m. at the VFW. The WWTP didn't get downgraded back to a Grade II, but they did adjust our testing frequency back to one time per week. This should help save the Town $15,000 per year. Thanks to NC Representative Keith Kidwell for his help in making this happen. Coastal Fence Company will be starting the fence work at the Water Plant soon. The Annual Christmas Tree Lighting is this Thursday night at 7 p.m. here at the Town Hall. Come out and enjoy the local talent that is lined up, Santa will be arriving that night. The Santa hours will be posted outside the' Town Hall, please bring your children out to visit. Thank you to Alderman Jones for volunteering your time. Christmas decorations have been hung throughout Town and should all be working at this time. Thanks to Duke Energy for repairing the few that needed fuses. New shingles were placed on the repeater building at the Water Plant. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family. Garbage pickup for Christmas and the New Yearwill be one day later than normal. Recycling will be picked up on December 12th this month. Main Street will be patched soon close to the Vanceboro History Museum. Ditch mowing has been completed. Partners in Education will be having a fundraiser at Morgan's Tavern on December 7th from 7 to 10 a.m.; any questions regarding this fundraiser may be directed to Darlene Brown. Looking forward to working alongside with the new Board of Alderman. I've been working with the' Town for 16 years and still strive to ac couple of days. Oculus should be in by Wednesday. Alderman Smith and carried. Vote 5-0. make Vanceboro a better place to live, work and play. XV. Alderman Reports. Alderman Belrose stated that he had enjoyed serving with Alderman Whitford. Looking forward to working with the new board. Meeting Minutes December 2, 2019 Alderman Cannon thanked Alderman Whitford for his service for the last eight Alderman Jones stated he was grateful for this opportunity to serve on the board. He stated that "Home is where the heart is" and he loves this town. Alderman McMillen stated he had enjoyed working with Alderman Whitford. Thanked Mayor Braxton for his dedication to the' Town and looking forward to Alderman Smith hopes everyone has a wonderful Christmas and stays safe. Thanked Alderman Jones for stepping up and appreciated the Town's support. years. Budget for the library this yeari is $138,113. serving on the board this term.
