TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on January 6, 2020 at 8:00PM in the Jimmie L.. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call. Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Stephen Belrose, Alderman Thad Jones, Alderman Todd McMillen, and Alderman Dennis Smith. Those Absent: Alderman Keith Cannon. III. Invocation by Alderman McMillen. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman McMillen made a motion to approve minutes as corrected. Motion was seconded by Alderman Smith and VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Smith made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 4-0. VII. Police Report was presented by ChiefJenkins. The equipment has been installed from the grant; we: should receive reimbursement funds soon. Attended the Tree lighting this month, thanks to Craven County Sheriff's Office for their assistance with this event. Officer Anthony and ChiefJenkins went to VFLES and presented presents to a family for a secret Santa donation. Attended the school Justice partnership-MOA agreement. Officer Whaley attended a school crisis meeting at the Board of] Education. Officer Anthony and ChiefJenkins announced the Do the Right' Thing Winner on December 16"; it was Kevin Anderson - Fifth Grade. Spoke at the Vanceboro Literacy-Adult development about Holiday safety. Officers with the Vanceboro Police Department worked security at the ABC store throughout the holidays. Discussed the age of juveniles with the Board of Alderman, on December 19th the law changed to make the juvenile age to 18. Looking for a motion to raise the age from 16 to 18 in our Chapter 32 - Curfew for Juveniles. Al Public Hearing will be held at the next Board of Alderman meeting on carried. Vote 4-0. February 3rd to discuss this change. VIII. Mayor's Report. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Birthdays this month is Public Works Director, Vernon Edwards and Public Works employee, Tevin Long. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of County Commissioner Jason Jones on thej passing of] his Grandfather, Sidney R. French; he represented Craven County on thel board and was a great asset to the community. Congratulations to Alderman Belrose, he became a Granddad. The tree lighting was a huge success; I believe it was the biggest yet. Patchwork on Main Street has been completed. Met with NC Department ofTransportation regarding the ten year comprehensive transportation plan (which includes a by-pass around Vanceboro through Highway 43). They have also talked about doing a roundabout here at the bridge by Streets Ferry Rd and one at the Country Store on the opposite end of Streets Ferry Rd. Fencing at the Water Plant has been repaired from Hurricane Florence. Decorations throughout Town should be taken down next week. Thanks to Strongman Structures for the use of the Santa house again this year. Recycling day will be on January gth this month. Please have all recyclables in the provided can. No recyclables will be picked up outside of can. All garbage must be in the can also, if any is sitting beside the can it will be left. Ifyou are interested in receiving your water bill through email there is a link at ww.ancborone.com: Ifyou would like to be set up on draft each month please stop by the' Town Hall. We also have a payment box outside of the Town Hall and a medication drop-off box outside of the Police Department. NCI Legislature office willl be back in session next week, hope we will hear about the grant money for the park soon. We need to look into selling or crushing the Street Sweeper at the Water plant. Powell bill money will be used next budget year to repair in front of Vanceboro Mill Market and First Avenuei in front of the church. Election is coming up for the Craven County Board of] Education, come out and vote. Stephanie King will be looking for reelection and Perry Morris will be running also. Ifyou would like to be added to the Phonetree for the Town, please call the Town Hall. Cemetery plots are available at both Vanceboro Cemetery and Celestial Memorial Gardens, payments can be set- up: and made at the Town Hall. Town Hall will be closed on January 20th in observance of Martin Luther King Day. February 3rd, willl be our next board meeting. The Town ofVanceboro is now partners with University of Mount Olive College which allows employees and the Board of Alderman to attend classes at a discounted rate. IX. Alderman Reports. Alderman Belrose had no comment. Alderman Jones thanked Vernon Edwards and his crew for all of their work to the Town. Alderman McMillen had no comment. Alderman Smith had no comment. X.
