TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING  Held their regular monthly meeting on March 2, 2020 at 8:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom  I.C Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton.  II. Roll call. Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Thad Jones, and Alderman Dennis Smith. Those Absent: Alderman  Steve Belrose.  III. Invocation by Alderman Jones. IV. Pledge of Allegiance.  V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman McMillen made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Smith and carried. Vote 4-0. VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Smith made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 4-0. VII. Craven County Family Literacy Program. Mrs. Regina Edmunds with Craven County Family Literacy Program spoke about the program and how it helps individuals with a second chance to obtain their high school equivalency. In addition, they provide child care assistance during the process. For more information call Renee VIII. Carr Riggs & Ingram - 2018 Audit. Mr. James Overton presented the 2018. Audit for the Town of Vanceboro. He stated that the contract for the 2019 Audit contract Alderman Smith made a motion to amend the 2019 Audit contract date. Motion IX. Police Report was presented by ChiefJenkins. Officer Anthony attended a Crisis meeting at Brinson Elementary School. Mrs. Donna Wright requested for the police department to facilitate a safety meeting at St. James Church of Christ which went well. Our office worked the Craven County Board of Elections security detail. February 18th we attended Career Day at Vanceboro Farm Life Elementary. Thanked everyone for supporting the calendar fundraiser by Royce Publications. Do thel Right Thing winner for February was Lily Murray, third grader at VFLES. Radars have been calibrated.. Pork Chop sale will be held on March 215t in the empty lot beside Kite's X. Mayor's Report. Service Roofing will be repairing the roof: at the Town Hall soon. We survived our first snowfall for this year. Our condolences go out to the family of Pastor Perry Turner formerly of Vanceboro Christian Church. Our next Board of Alderman Meeting will be held on April 6" in the Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom at 8 p.m. March 5th is pickup day for recyclables. Property tax monies have started coming in. The police grant money came in for the School Resource Officer. Lift station repairs have been completed that were planned in this year's budget. Election tomorrow for the primaries. Come out and exercise your right to vote. School Resource Officer is inj place at the Vanceboro Farm Life Elementary. Officer Anthony will be a great mentor for the kids and asset to the school. Fusion was auctioned off, not sure what business it will be as ofyet. O'Reilly's has closed on the property where the old Family Dollar used to be, should be opening soon. Thanks to Victor Taylor for the CRC event (Block Party) that was held on February 29th. The event was successful. Long time resident of the Vanceboro community, Buryl Slaughter celebrated his 100th Birthday on February 4th. Getting a quote from Coastal Dragline to work on several washouts throughout town. We will setup atime to tour Water and Wastewater Plants with Vernon Edwards over the next month or sO for the. Alderman. Preschool Story Hour at the library is held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Collected some prices on cremation niches for the cemeteries, we can decide at a later date ifthis is something we want to move forward with. Wewill be seeking a grant from Bate Foundation to help with Phase IIofthel Richard W. Bower's Park. The Board of Alderman and Mayor completed their required Ethics training. Alderman Cannon reminded everyone of the Vanceboro Strawberry Festival being held on May 1"and 2nd. Asked Town Clerk to contact William Lilly to have the banners place by April 11t. Parade route will remain the same. Vendors are submitting registrations on a regular basis. Tennis court lights are working out at Alderman Jones thanked Vernon Edwards and crew for their hard work. Alderman McMillen will be collecting information for the vision of the park. Thanked Beverly Drake and Brittany Mumford for the compliment given by the Alderman Smith thanked Alderman Jones & his son TJ for helping with bathroom repairs at the Town Hall.
