TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Heldt their regular monthly meeting on May 4, 2020 at 8:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call. Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Steve Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Thad Jones, Alderman Todd McMillen and Alderman Dennis Smith. III. Invocation by Alderman Cannon. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman McMillen made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Cannon and carried. Vote 5- VI. Approval ofCash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Smith made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 5-0. VII. Police Report was presented by ChiefJ Jenkins. With the COVID 19 pandemic we have been using caution while being in public and in assisting with calls. I'd like to thank Sharon Bland for the masks delivered to the department to help with our safety. We are practicing social distancing and good hygiene. We are handling most calls over the phone unless they are serious, then we are responding inj person. There was no Do the Right Thing winner this month. Hopefully this program will be back in operation when school takes back in. We are: still assisting the VFLES VIII. Resolution - Pamlico Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan. Alderman Jones made a motion to adopt the Pamlico Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan. Motion was IX. Mayor's Report. Update on the NC State totals for COVID 19 is 12,000 infected and 450 deaths. Public Works employee, John Raines celebrates a birthday this month. May 28twilll be the next recycling day for the Town of Vanceboro. Sergeant Callaway resigned his position; we will be looking a replacement for him. Carr Riggs & Ingram has completed the 2018 audit and is almost through with the 2019 audit. Thanks to Alderman Smith and his son Dylan for placing mulch at the library, it looks nice. Ceiling tiles has been replaced at the Town Hall. Our new IT 0. with Meals on Wheels. seconded by Alderman Smith and carried. Vote 5-0. technician will be Shelton Davis. Both phone lines are working again at the Town Hall. Haven'theard anything back regarding the Sewer application for a grant, hoping to hear from it soon. Coastal Dragline has been working on cleaning/repairing ditches throughout Town. Roy Hicks has requested rezoning (Commercial to Residential 8) on property located at 8530 Main Street. Public Hearing for this request will be during our Town Board Meeting on June 1*t. Our first budget workshop will be May 11" at 6:00 p.m. The 2020-21 budget will be presented at the June 1*t Board of Alderman meeting. Public Hearing for the 2020- 21 budget will be on June 22"d at 12:00 p.m. Town Hall will be closed on May 26th in observance of Memorial Day. We have collected $1,090.60 through Debt Setoff this month. X. Alderman Reports. Alderman Belrose stated Buck Lane needs a lot ofwork and was wondering if this area could be included in the upcoming budget for this fiscal year. Alderman Cannon stated that a few vendors asked for refunds due to the cancellation of the Vanceboro Strawberry Festival, most vendors just applied the money for registration for next year. The festival has been set for the 2020-21 year for April 30-May 1. Kent Esau/Kent's Country BBQ is planning to open a restaurant at the back oft the Vanceboro History Museum on July 1,2020. Alderman Jones had no comment. Alderman McMillen turned in the grant packet to Bate Foundation. Hoping tol hear from them by August or September. Would like to look for other sources of funding Alderman Smith thanked Public Works employee Michael Bryant for his help with a sewer blockage. He thanked Vernon and his crew for the expedient repairs to the pot holes/manholes that were repaired after last month's meeting. Would like to see some new signs placed up in place of the dull and hard to read signs throughout town. Asked the police department to reach out to 240 Williams Lane regarding to help with progression of the park. box springs, trash, etc. that has been piled up a while. XI. Public Comment. No Comments.
