TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on July 13, 2020 at 8:00 PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I.C Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call. Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Steve Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Thad Jones, Alderman Todd McMillen and Alderman Dennis Smith. III. Invocation by Alderman Jones. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman Smith made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman McMillen and carried. Vote 5-0. VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman McMillen made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 5-0. VII. Carr Riggs & Ingram - Audit FY18-19. Mr. James Overton with Carr Riggs & Ingram presented the 2018-19 Audit. Alderman Smith made a motion to approve the 2018-19 Audit Report. Motion was VIII. Police Report was presented by ChiefJenkins. We held ouri first Coffee with a Cop on July 7h at Vera's Diner, it went well. The next one will be on August 4th. Weare monitoring grass for ordinance violations as well as other ordinance issues. Police escort for school deliveries ended on June 10th. On June 15th we attended CPR training by Vanceboro Rescue. The 2007 Dodge Charger was posted for sale on June 30", we have one interested buyer. SECU donated some office items to the department. Booze it Lose it kickoff was held at Cherry Point on June 29t, there were other agencies present from around the State. June 29th & 30th, we conducted a Alderman Smith made a motion to accept the offer from Michael Anthony of $2,500 for the 2007 Dodge Charger. Motion was seconded by Alderman McMillen and seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 5-0. security audit on Vanceboro Farm Life School. carried. Vote 5-0. IX. Clerk-Public Works- - Truck Purchase. The' Town of Vanceboro had collected four quotes to purchase a new Public Works Department truck. Alderman Jones made a motion to accept quote #169 from Cella Ford for: a 2019 Ford F-150 XL 4x2 SuperCab. Motion was seconded by Alderman Smith and X. Mayor's Report. The Town of Vanceboro currently has five homes for sale ranging from $40K to $200K, located on College Street, James Street and Farm Life Avenue. We are still under the Executive Order set forth by the Governor Roy Cooper; therefore, we are not turning utilities off at this time. Municipalities should receive some financial help from the CARES Act through Craven County. Congratulations to our seniors oft the Class of2020, al banner has been placed in Vanceboro to acknowledge their accomplishments. Attended Coffee with a Cop at Vera's Diner, this will be taking place the first Tuesday of each month. Birthdays this month include: Mayor Chad Braxton, Officer Justin Whaley, Alderman Steve Belrose, and Alderman Todd McMillen. Longtime resident, Lindsay Smith, passed away this month, our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He will be missed in our community. The library will bel hiring a new head librarian that will split time between Vanceboro and Cove City. Recycling will be picked up on July 23-d. The next Board of Alderman Meeting will be held on August 3rd. Kent Esau will be opening Kent's Country BBQ on August 1. Governor Cooper will be announcing the plans for the school schedule for the upcoming school year. Officer Michael Anthony is back on staffwith us until school starts back up. No updates on when the basketball court will be reopening. North Carolina will not be donating $50K for the Phase II of the Richard W. Bowers Park. We are waiting to hear from the Bate Foundation regarding the grant for the park; it will bei in October/November. The Town looks nice; we could use some street repairs. Alderman Cannon stated that the Library Director will bel looking for a librarian to Alderman Jones has been asked about the' Town purchasing mausoleum for split time between the Vanceboro and Cove City libraries. Celestial Memorial Gardens. Alderman McMillen had no comment. Alderman Smith stated that 307 Second Avenue needs tol be posted again. John Thomas - Thomas Engineering out of New Bern spoke about Elks Park located on Bailey Lane. He has a client interested in building homes in this area and Mayor Braxton stated that we would get in touch with the Planning/Zoning Board members and arrange a time for them to meet with Mr. Thomas. would like to speak to the Planning/Zoning Board.
