TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on October 5, 2020 at 8:00. PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call. Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Steve Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Thad Jones, Alderman Todd McMillen and Alderman Dennis Smith. III. Invocation by Alderman McMillen. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval ofr minutes from last meeting. Alderman McMillen made a motion to approve minutes as corrected. Motion was seconded by Alderman Smith and carried. Vote 5-0. VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Jones made a motion to pay bills. VII. Craven County ABC Board. Chairman Chip Cagnon with the Craven County ABC Board presented their annual briefing. Catherine Johnson, Store Manager of the Vanceboro VIII. Police Report. Pork Chop plate sale willl bel held on September 16", all proceeds will be used to buy ballistic armor for the department. Police Department is selling tickets to win a gun; drawing will be on October 315. Officer Anthony will be reporting back to VFLES on October 19th as SRO. Officer Herring and Officer Baker were sworn in on September 30th. Our department assisted with a bike benefit which traveled through IX. Mayor's Report. Happy Birthday to our Town Clerk, Beverly Drake, celebrating her birthday today. Mr. Danny Smith is the owner of the 2009 Colorado and Street Sweeper. Public Works employee, Pernell Fields is out with knee surgery; our prayers are: for a speedy recovery. Town resident, Clyde Gaskins passed away, our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Next Town Board Meeting will be held on November 2"d at 8 p.m. If you haven'tcompleted the Census for 2020 it has been extended for one month, please go online and submit this information before the deadline. Recycling will be on October 15th. Thanks to Alderman Jones for his work at thel library. Ireceived the library lease from Craven County's attorney and forwarded it along to our Town attorney Scott Davis to review. The Town will continue to provide the water, sewer, garbage and maintain the Motion was seconded by Alderman Smith and carried. Vote 5-0. ABC Store presented a check to Mayor. Braxton for $4,753.00. Town. lawn at the library; Craven County will bei responsible for any other items that come forth. The library will revert back to the Town ift the library is ever closed. October 15th starts early voting for the elections come out and exercise your right to vote. School starts back at Vanceboro Farm Life Elementary on October 19th. Please exercise patience when the bus is stopped toj pick up children. They will be required to take the children's temperature before they leave with them. Wereceived $14, 905 from thel NC State Powell Bill this month. Thanksgiving luncheon for the employees will bel held on November 24"" at 12 p.m. pending approval from the VFW. Employees will continue to receive a turkey at Thanksgiving and a ham at Christmas in appreciation for all they do for the' Town. The Christmas Tree Lighting will still take place; we will invite three to four solo acts toj perform instead of school classes this year. There are still some concerns for the modular structure that Shabach AME Zion Church has placed on their property. Wewill have Attorney Scott Davis to attend the next Board of Alderman meeting to address some. zoning ideas for the future. We are still waiting tol hear back from the Cemetery Commission regarding the purchasing of property at Celestial Memorial Gardens to place Columbarium's out there. X. Alderman Reports. Alderman Belrose had no comment. Alderman Cannon had no comment. Alderman Jones had no comment. Alderman McMillen stated we were looking atl Barr's Recreation toj purchase our playground structure. The playground will have stuff for. Ages 2 to 5 and Ages 5-12 to enjoy. There will be two ADA accessible ramps included. Itwill take 4 to 61 weeks for the project to be completed. We can add more to the playground in the future to expand it further. Alderman Smith had no comment. XI. Public Comment. No Public Comments. XII. Adjournment.
