TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on November 2, 2020 at 8:00PM in the Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call. Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Steve Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Thad Jones, Alderman Todd McMillen and Alderman Dennis Smith. III. Invocation by Alderman Jones. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval ofr minutes from last meeting. Alderman McMillen made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Smith and carried. Vote 5-0. VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Smith made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 5-0. VII. Police Report. Gun Raffle was a success, raising $1958 after expenses were taken out. We made $1811 on the Pork Chop plate sale that will help buy up to date body armor for the department. Training for the new officers is going well. We didn'thave to work security at the voting polls; we still ride through and make sure things are going well. We took 300 pounds of medication to the SBI in Greenville, will be collecting meds for the next drop in March 2021. We have been assisting the VFLES Monday through Friday and are making plans to prepare an off-site meeting area in case of bomb threats. Do the Right Thing will be starting back up in January 2021. Officer Michael Anthony resigned his position with the department on October 29th. VIII. Carr Riggs & Ingram, LLC. Engagement Letter and Audit Contract for June 30, 2020. Alderman Belrose made a motion for the' Town of Vanceboro to go with Carr Riggs & Ingram, LLC: for our. June 30, 2020 audit. Motion was seconded by Alderman Cannon IX. Mayor's Report. The Town received $4,753 from the ABC Board last month, the Board of Alderman needs to decide where the money will be spent (Suggestion would be to the playground). The Town Hall will be closed on November 11"i in observance of Veteran's Day. Thanks to all the Veteran's that have fought for our freedom, we appreciate your sacrifices. We are still waiting a decision from the Cemetery Commission regarding and carried. Vote 5-0. using the perpetual funds for the cemetery to purchase Columbarium space at the Celestial Memorial Gardens. Election Day is tomorrow, come out and exercise your right to vote, polls are open from 6:30 a.m. through 7:30 p.m. The Tree Lighting ceremony will be held on December 3, 2020 at 7 p.m. here at the Town Hall. Wewill have hot chocolate available. There will not be a Santa house this year due to COVID-19. Birthdays this month are Chief. Jimmy Jenkins and Alderman Dennis Smith. Deaths this month include Joyce Gaskins, resident of Vanceboro and Public Works employee Tevin Long's Granddad. Our hearts and prayers go out to their families. Town Hall will be closed on November 26 & 27 in observance ofThanksgiving. Hope the employees enjoy time with their family and friends. Next Board of Alderman meeting will be held on December 7th at 8 p.m. Trash pickup will be Saturday, November 28th. Recycling pickup will be on November 12"h. The Vanceboro United Methodist Church did not host the annual Trunk or Treat this year due to COVID-19 but we still had a few trick or treaters out in Vanceboro. The sidewalk edging and curbing is almost complete throughout Town. Ditch mowing is about 50% completed for this year. Christmas decorations should be going up on November: 23"d. VFW will bel hosting Craven Community College's program Workforce Readiness" to help individuals to get back into jobs when they have experienced hardships. We thank the VFW for allowing this program to meet at their location, this is a great opportunity. The limbs willl be mulched at the Wastewater Treatment Plant soon. Public Works employee, Michael Bryant has accepted a position at Cherry Point and will be leaving the' Town this month. Wewish him the best in this new endeavor. Meeting Minutes November 2, 2020 C.N Mr. Scott Davis discussed the Tax Foreclosure property on Arnold Street which is owned by the Town of Vanceboro and Craven County. Craven County put the property up for bids and has completed the process. Taxes were owed to both parties; Craven County will handle everything and will send the Town their part once D.
