TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on March 1, 2021 at 8:00PM in the Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I.C Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call. Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Thad Jones, Alderman Todd McMillen and Alderman Dennis Smith. Those Absent: Alderman Steve Belrose and Alderman Keith Cannon III. Invocation by Alderman McMillen. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman Smith made a motion to approve minutes as corrected. Motion was seconded by Alderman McMillen and carried. Vote3- VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman McMillen made a motion to pay VII. Police Report. The department has been getting ready for the murder trial for Carolyn Patterson that begins on March 22, 2021. We have been updating our mutual aid agreements within Craven County. Officer Baker will be attending radar school at Craven Community College next week. Officer Herring will be attending School Resource Officer training during April spring break from school. We will be doing several checkpoints over the next few months to earn points through the NC Governor's VIII. Library. Mrs. Clowers and Mrs. Cox informed the Board of Alderman of all the changes that have been made to better serve the Town and the surrounding community. They now have a set schedule for when they are open, they have something for all age groups, and they have a welcoming environment and friendly staff to assist the needs of the community. The library will be increasing their programs such as: Story time, Kindergarten, Young adult and their large print collection. The library also has a young gentleman working on an Eagle Scout project that will benefit our community with a Alderman Smith made a motion to donate $3,500 to assist thel library with their projects they are implementing. Highway Safety Program. mobile van, which will bring technology out into the community. IX. Mayor's Report. Vaccines will soon be available to essential workers throughout Craven County. Ifyou arei interested in getting your vaccine please call the Craven County Health Department. Turnage Construction has been delayed in starting the ditch work due to inclement weather. Keep in mind that we will need to replace the flat bed truck and the backhoe over the next one to two years. FEMA reimbursements due to Hurricane Isaias should be around $16,000. The 2020 audit for the Town of Vanceboro should be complete soon. NCDOT called and stated that the roundabout at Nelson Road should be started within the next year. The next Board of Aldermen meeting will be held on April 5th. Town Hall will be closed on April 2nd in observance of Good Friday. Recycling will be picked up this Thursday, March 4th. We will begin budget workshops in the week after the May Board of Aldermen meeting. The budget proposal will be presented at the. June Board of Aldermen meeting. Public Hearing will be set towards the end of June and be adopted effective. July 1*:. Craven County will be hosting a job fair at Union Point Park on March 30th. Must be registered to set up a booth at the event. The Job Readiness Boot Camp through Craven Community College will be holding their second class the week of March 16th through March 26th here at the VFW building located on First Avenue. Russell Ipock, Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Board will be presenting information for the Main Street overlay and updates for the Zoning Ordinance within the next two months. The Town has two public works employees that will be taking the Wastewater exam on the 11". X. Alderman Reports. College Street. Alderman Jones stated that there have been sightings of coyotes within the city limits on Alderman McMillen mentioned starting a blog or high light a couple of business owners throughout town on our town website, to try and support local businesses. Alderman Smith mentioned the 8000 block ofMain Street and if the NCDOT had been contacted to fix the street. He also thanked Vernon Edwards with his help at Hudson Jordan's house. XI. Public Comment.
