TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on July 12, 2021 at 8:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call. Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Steve Belrose, Alderman Thad Jones, Alderman Todd McMillen and Alderman Dennis Smith. Absent: Alderman Keith Cannon III. Invocation by Alderman Jones. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Carr Riggs & Ingram. Mr.James Overton of Carr Riggs & Ingram presented the draft copy of the June 30, 2020 audit. The draft has been sent to Local Government Commission fori final approval. Carr Riggs & Ingram will send the Town a copy oft the VI Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman McMillen made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 4-0. VII. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Smith made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 4-0. VIII. Police Report. June 12th, we held a multiple agency checking station which resulted in 20-+ charges. Gaming machines have been removed out of the Town. There are still two locations with a machine but they have been unplugged. August 7th will be the Back to School Bash and National Night Out for the Town. Itwill be held beside Kite's in the grass lot from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Grass cutting throughout Town has been better this year; there are: a few we have had to cite. Calendars from the fundraiser have come in and we delivered them to area businesses. If anyone would like a calendar they can contact the IX. Craven County/Town of Vanceboro - Approval for Sale of property at 243B James Street. Alderman Smith made a motion to accept the deed and lien for property located at 243B James Street. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 4-0. final audit once it is approved. Police Department. X. Mayor's Report. The Town received $357.96 from Debt Setoff this month. Town banners have been ordered. Property on Arnold Street is in the process of building a stick built home. Bushes have been pulled up by the Vanceboro sign by the Fire Department. Craven County has been sprucing up thel Library since they leased the building. They have repaved the parking lot and will be changing the sign and replacing the roof soon. We had a panel box fire last month at the Town Hall; we received our insurance claim money this month for this incident. We received $49,500 from Craven County for the School Resource Officer at Vanceboro Farm Life Elementary. The two water tank restoration payments will be complete December 2021. We should receive our American Rescue Plan funds tomorrow ofS153,771.52. These funds must be spent by December 2026 and is restricted to certain restrictions, such as: broadband, and water/sewer infrastructure. Hope everyone had a safe and fun filled July 4th holiday. Birthdays this month include: Alderman Steve Belrose, Alderman Todd McMillen and I, Mayor Chad Braxton. NCDOT has repaired the road at the 8100 block of Main Street, it is al little better. Hopefully more repairs willl bei in the near future. The Town will have to carry the information for our perpetual care cemetery to legislation to have the perpetual care changed sO that the money can be used to improve the cemetery. The next Board of Alderman Meeting will be held on August 2nd. Next recycling date is July 22"d. attended the Parks and Recreation meeting in Craven County. They are doing a lot of upgrades throughout the Craven County playgrounds. Craven County along with Coastal Land Trust will be placing a nature trail on the 168 Parcel in New Bern. Peddlers will now be required to have an orange peddler license on their table when operating within Town. Congratulations to Public Works employee Jason Blackwood for passing his Grade II in Collections for the waste treatment plant. The State is still promising $50K to the Town in their budget. XI. Alderman Reports. Alderman Belrose would like to have the Board of Alderman's approval to bring a company in to have the Town'swater assessed. Just to see if they could recommend any improvements or better quality or even lower costs. Alderman Smith had no comment. Alderman Jones thanked Vernon Edwards and his crew forworking on the July 5th holiday. He also thanked them for removing the limbs that were. hanging over on Moore Street. Alderman McMillen had no comment. XII. Public Comment. Andrew Black- 805 College Street volunteered his house to be used for samples ift the Town has the water assessed. He has calcium buildup in his faucets and commodes. He also stated that he never: see the police working on Main Street or College Street. XIII. Adjournment.
