OFVANC TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on November 1, 2021 at 8:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Stephen Belrose, Alderman Thad Jones, and Alderman Todd McMillen. III. Invocation by Alderman Belrose. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval ofi minutes from last meeting. Alderman Cannon made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman McMillen and carried. Vote 4-0. VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Jones made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Belrose and carried. Vote 4-0. VII. Recommendation- Planning and Zoning Board. Mayor Chad Braxton recommended Mike Swain for the Planning and Zoning Board. There being no other nominations, VIII. Swearing in of Alderman Russell Ipock. Mayor Chad Braxton swore in Russell Ipock as our new Alderman to complete the term for late Alderman Smith. IX. Police Report was presented by ChiefJenkins. He welcomed Russell Ipock to the board. Stated him and Mayor Chad Braxton attended the ribbon cutting for Swift Creek Academy. Operation take back was dropped off to the SBI in Greenville. Thanked Officer Herring for handing out Halloween bags. Officer Herring and Officer Baker received their 1-year general certification. Do the Right Thing winner X. Proclamation- Mayor Braxton proclaimed the month of November National American Indian Heritage Month in the Town of Vanceboro. Mayor Chad Braxton approved. Vote 4-0. for the month of October was Journey Wade. XI. Clerk- Sale of property - Parcel ID#1-V-06-007 located on Main Street- Alderman Jones made a motion to sale property. Motion was seconded by Alderman Cannon XII. Mayor's Report. Lainee Jordan from the Strawberry Jam Festival walk is gettinga heart tonight. Birthdays this month ChiefJenkins. Deaths this month include Henry Elks and Brian Mccoy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families. The dropbox is back up. Medicine dropbox at Police Department is being used and disposed of] properly. Thanked the Rotary Club for the bench that was donated to the Richard W. Bowers Park and Alderman McMillen for overseeing that project. Sent thank you letter to City of] New Bern for use of sweeper. Elks Park project coming along. 11 houses in total, 2 have already sold. Town edging has been completed. Cemetery has been cleaned up and looking better. Have concerns with billboards. One going up across from carwash. Alderman McMillen recommends we address these off-premise signs as soon as possible. Motion was made by Alderman Ipock and seconded by Alderman Belrose for zoning board to meet about billboard issues. Trick or treating went well. Next board meeting is December 6th. November 11",25th and 26th Town Hall will be closed. Recycle is November 11". Ditch mowing iss scheduled for tomorrow. The Treelighting is being planned and is scheduled for December 2"d at 7pm. Garbage pickup will be Saturday, November 27th. Tank on Bailey will be going offline on the gth for 41 to 5 weeks. Willl be able to connect with Craven County water if there are any issues. Thank everyone for the prayers for my mom. A restaurant will be coming to Main Street in a few months. A shred event is being held in River Bend on November 6th from 9 am to 12pm. Beverly attended a and carried. Vote 4-0 clerk workshop. XIII. Alderman Reports. Alderman Cannon welcomed Alderman Ipock to the board and stated he looks forward to working with him. Library has started working on the outdoor shelter, and also a grant to receive $15,000 for computers. The next board meeting for the Alderman Belrose took a ride out in the creek and states it's being cleaned up well. Alderman Ipock stated he was honored and humbled to be appointed as the new Alderman. He cares about Vanceboro and wants to see it grow and prosper. He plans to do his very best being a positive reflection as Alderman Smith was. library will be January 25. Alderman Jones welcomed Alderman Ipock to the Board. Alderman McMillen thanked Chris Edwards for coming up with a plan and concreting the bench at the playground. Also thanked John Cobb for helping and the Rotary Club for the donation oft the bench. The next step for the playground will be adding a shelter. Meeting Minutes November 1, 2021 XIV. Public Comment. Hudson Jordan-704 College Street stated that he was putting up ai fence and needed tol know the right ofway setbacks. Also, he wanted to know if the ditch behind his house was included in the ditch mowing. XV. Adjournment.
