FVANC TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on January 3, 2022 at 7:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I.C Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Russell Ipock, and Alderman Todd McMillen. Those Absent: Alderman Steve Belrose and Alderman Thad Jones III. Invocation by Alderman McMillen. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval ofr minutes from last meeting. Alderman McMillen made a motion to approve minutes as corrected. Motion was seconded by Alderman Ipock and carried. Vote 3-0. VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Ipock made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Cannon and carried. Vote 3-0. VII. Public Comment. No Public Comments. VIII. Resolution - Parcel ID# 1-V-06-007. Alderman McMillen made a motion to approve the resolution for Parcel ID 1-V-06-007. Motion was seconded by Alderman IX. Library request from Julie Cox. Alderman Ipock made a motion to approve the installation of an exterior wireless access point at the library. Motion was seconded X. Police Report was presented by ChiefJenkins. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Assisted with the Town Christmas Tree Lighting, it was a great success. Sergeant Keys completed radar training and has 4.5 hours left of practical training with Officer Baker. The department would like Cannon and carried. Vote 3-0. by Alderman McMillen and carried. Vote3-0. to thank the' Town for the Christmas Party being held at night. The officers all enjoyed their time and having their families included. We responded to 2,190 calls over the year. Wel have already started in house training for the 2022 year. Do the Right' Thing will include. January and February at one time, since school is out for XI. Mayor's Report. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Public Works Director, Vernon Edwards is celebrating a birthday this month. The house on the corner of] Farm Life Avenue and Second Avenue was torn down, the property looks better. Spoke to the library about having a plaque made to honor the late. Alderman Dennis Smith and all his work he did for the library. Christmas decorations will be taken down soon, William Lilly stated that we would have to replace some of the decorations next year. Representative Steve Tyson will approach legislature to have our cemetery changed from being listed as a perpetual care cemetery. Cornelius Bradley is our new. Public works employee. Heis knowledgeable and brings a lot to the position. We wish him well in his new role with the Town. Congratulations to John Raines on passing his Grade II wastewater exam. Hei is now the backup ORC for the Waste Treatment Plant. Public Works has been very busy over the last few weeks with several water leaks throughout Town. Ditch work and mowing is almost complete. Next Board of Alderman Meeting will bel February 7th at 7:00 p.m. Town Hall will be closed on January 17th for Martin Luther King Holiday. The library will be having a new sign installed in front of the building. The two houses right beside of Wells Fargo has been purchased, the new owner plans to renovate one: and the other will be torn down. This will make 161 new homes to be developed in the' Town over the last twelve months. The M Ann M property has been purchased across from the' Town Hall, a new restaurant should be opening soon in that building. Please come out and support our local restaurants in' Town. We received Powell Bill money totaling $18,661.20 that is used for street repairs. We are looking into some grant money from the State to put up an electronic sign here at the Town Hall, or a shelter at the Park. The sidewalk has been repaired by the stop light. NC Representative Keith Kidwell came out to the Town Hall and spoke with the citizens of Vanceboro and thel holidays. answered questions. Next recycling pickup will be January 6". XII. Alderman Reports. Alderman McMillen had no comment. Alderman Ipock stated that he attended the meeting here at the Town Hall with NC Representative Keith Kidwell. Mr. Kidwell stated that the State would be spending $20M at the airport in Beaufort County. They are upgrading this facility to accommodate 737 jets. They will also be adding 21 hangars to store planes for owners. They have also given $5M to help with the sewer system in Bath. He also stated that the Hwy. 17 project would be a priority in 2022; we should see work starting back up soon. Thanked Vernon Edwards and his crew for the sidewalk repairs. Meeting Minutes January 3, 2022 Alderman Cannon stated the planning for the 40th Anniversary of the Vanceboro Strawberry Festival would be taking place soon. Hopefully all will go well with this year's event; we are hoping to make this just a Saturday event again. XIII. Adjournment.
