VAN TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on March 7, 2022 at 7:00PM in the Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Steve Belrose, Alderman Russell Ipock, Alderman Thad Jones and Alderman Todd McMillen. Those Absent: Alderman Keith Cannon. III. Invocation by Alderman Belrose. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman McMillen made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Belrose and carried. Vote 4- VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Ipock made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 4-0. 0. VII. Public Comment. No Public Comments. VIII. Police Report was presented by Chief. Jenkins. Police cars have been calibrated for the year. Do The Right' Thing winneri is Laila Dinapoli. We are still working on the shooting case along with the District Attorney's office. We will be having a pork chop plate sale on April 16", the VFW will be helping. We will bel having pop-up checking stations over the next few weeks. This will help add points to Governor's Highway Safety points. Thanks to Alderman Cannon for providing the training for IX. Clerk - Budget Amendment #3. Alderman Ipock made a motion to approve the budget amendment to include ARP funds into the Wastewater budget. Motion was CPR/AED. seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 4-0. X. Mayor's Report. The plaque has been ordered for the late Alderman Dennis Smith. Wewill honor him on May 2"d at 6 p.m. at the library before our scheduled Board of Alderman meeting. Deaths for this month include: Minnie Ewell, George Evans, Robert Jones and 8 people in the Down east tragedy. Our hearts and prayers go out to each of these families. We have sent letters toj property owners regarding cleaning up their properties. We received our prison water bill with the new rates. Recycling pick up willl be on March 31. Our next Board of Alderman Meeting will be April 4th at 7 p.m. Library was given a mounted bear to display. We appreciate the family donating this bear to the library. Our first budget workshop will be held on April 12"at 6j p.m. Thel budget will be presented at the meeting on June 6"h. Public Hearing to adopt the FY22-23 budget will be at 12 p.m. on June 27th. The limbs have been mulched at the Wastewater Plant. Vanceboro has been classified from a class 61 to 5 for homeowner's insurance. Special thanks to ChiefLewis for: all his efforts with the state inspection for the fire department. I'd like to thank Vernon Edwards for his hard work and hours spent over the last few weeks. Heis dedicated to the Town and we appreciate all he does. XI. Alderman Reports. Alderman Belrose commented on the businesses and if wel had a requirement on trash pickup. ChiefJenkins will address the business in question. ChiefJenkins and Iwill check the stakes behind the Police Department and Town Hall to see the Alderman Ipock stated there were five lots available in Stewart Park for development. He met with developers and there is also 10 acres on Buck Lane that isr ready for development. Commented on seeing the needs and prioritizing for status of erosion over the last year. sewer, water and streets. Alderman Jones had no comment. Alderman McMillen reached out to Drake Construction to get an estimate to build a 20x24: shelter for the Richard' W. Bowers Park. The estimate was $16,000 which includes a concrete pad. Wewill be applying for the Bate grant in May to help with this project. We should consider having a movie night at the park to generate more families to come out and enjoy a Town sponsored event.
