TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on April 4, 2022 at 7:00PM ini the Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Steve Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Russell Ipock, Alderman Thad Jones and Alderman Todd McMillen. III. Invocation by Alderman McMillen. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman Ipock made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Cannon and carried. Vote 5-0. VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Jones made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman McMillen and carried. Vote 5-0. VII. Public Comment. Victoria Ratchford - 7834 Main Street - Asking for a variance for her property located on Main Street to put a new 2022 mobile home. Michelle Dubiel of Clayton Homes was with her and presented pictures to the Board of Alderman and was Jo-lynne Braxton - 404 First Avenue - Thanked all of the Town Board of Alderman, Administrative staff, Public Works, Police Department and the Mayor for their hard work and dedication to the' Town. She stated that sometimes we go unnoticed and thanked and she wanted to express her gratitude for all that we do. available for any questions. VIII. Police Report was presented by ChiefJenkins. April 16th will be the pork chop plate sale at 11 a.m., come out and support this fundraiser, all proceeds will benefit the National Night Out for the Town. The officers and Iwould like to thank Alderman Jones for the meall he provided to the staff on March 15th. Wel have transported evidence to the State Bureau ofInvestigation involving the shooting incident in Town. March 24th, wel had a traffic stop which resulted in an arrest being made. IX. Resolutions. Resolution for Wastewater Treatment Plant. Alderman Ipock made a motion to adopt the resolution for the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Motion was seconded by Resolution for Water Treatment Plant. Alderman McMillen made a motion to adopt the resolution for the Water Treatment Plant. Motion was seconded by X. Clerk-E Budget Amendment #4. Alderman Ipock made a motion to approve the budget amendment. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote5 5- XI. Mayor's Report. Assistant Clerk, Brittany Mumford will be celebrating a birthday on April 13th. The Town Hall will be closed on April 15th in observance of Good Friday. April 28th will be the next recycling date for the Town. The next Board of Alderman Meeting will be held on May 2"d. The ceremony to honor the late Alderman Dennis Smith will bel held on May 2nd at 6 p.m. at the library. Prison employees will be helping with the shelter for the Richard W. Bowers' Park. They may also be helping to redo our Christmas decorations. Craven County installed a new sign at the library. Iattended a meeting for the Craven County Recreation and Parks. I'm pushing to have our gym utilized more here at Vanceboro Farm Life Elementary. Craven County and the Board of Education will have to grant approval for the gym to be used. The gym is currently used forl Basketball camps and volleyball. The Coastal Land Trust has given 172 acres of land to Craven County that will be used to construct a nature park. The county will be resurfacing the tennis courts at West Craven Park and more lights will also be added. North Carolina House of] Representative Keith Kidwell will be pursuing funding for the Farm Life Avenue Project for the Town. We are still working on receiving back pay from the prison for water bills. The prison will be hosting a job fair on April 14#h to recruit Correction Officer's. Iattended the meeting of] Friends oft the Library,lam proud of all the progress they have made. Stephanie King, District 1 representative ofthe Board of] Education has resigned her position. I'd like to congratulate the late Alderman Smith's daughter Dawsyn Smith and my daughter Sydney Braxton for their Honors College graduation. I'm very proud of their hard work. Meeting Minutes April 4, 2022 Alderman Belrose stated that he and the Chief had taken the boat on the creek to check on the seven stakes that were placed to check for erosion. Atthis time there has been no erosion over the last year. Will check this again after some severe Alderman Cannon stated that his son was celebrating his 28th birthday today. Friends of the Library had a movie night for the community and it was well attended. Thank you to Hudson Jordan and his wife for helping with this event. Thel library will be having a craft fair: soon and are having a book sale also for NationalLibrary Week. Vanceboro Strawberry Festival is coming together well, we have about 30 to 35 vendors signed up sO far. We should have our sign up over the road soon announcing the 40th year Celebration of the Strawberry Festival. We appreciate all of the sponsors that have contributed sO far. Wewill bel having our Alderman Ipock thanked Vernon Edwards, Mayor Braxton and the. Alderman who weather to see ift that changes things. next meeting for the festival this Thursday night at 6 p.m. had worked to get the grant information in place. Alderman Jones had no comment. Alderman McMillen stated we are ready to submit the application to the Bate Foundation to help build a 20' x24' shelter for the Richard W. Bowers' Park. He attended a' Town meeting in Aurora and liked how they plan strategically. One of the men is willing to meet with our Alderman and give suggestions and speak with us at a future time. Ifwe reach out to the Chamber of Commerce there may be grant monies available to small businesses in our community. XIII. Continuance. Alderman Ipock made a motion to continue our meeting on April11"at 6 p.m. Motion was seconded by Alderman McMillen and carried. Vote5-0.
