Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Steve Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, and Alderman Thad Jones. Those absent Alderman Russell Ipock and Alderman Todd McMillen. III. Invocation by Alderman Jones. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman Belrose made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 3-0. VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Jones made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Belrose and carried. Vote 3-0. VII. Congratulations. Congratulations to Public Works Supervisor, Vernon Edwards for 45 years of service to the Town of Vanceboro. Weappreciate his dedication and hard work Congratulations to Town Clerk, Beverly Drake for receiving the 2022 North Carolina Rural Water Association's Award for Administrative Excellence. We that he has given to the Town over the years. appreciate all you do: for the Town. VIII. Public Hearing. Alderman Jones made a motion to open thel Public Hearing for property located at' 7834 Main Street. Motion was seconded by Alderman Belrose and carried. Vote 3-0. There were: no residents present to speak at the Public Hearing. Alderman Jones made a motion to close the Public Hearing. Motion was seconded Jeff Holzbach, Chairman of the Planning & Zoning Board made a recommendation to thel Board of Alderman to not approve the variance for property located at' 7834 Main Street. Itisz zoned as an R-8, which is not part of the mobile home overlay for Alderman Belrose made a motion to approve the variance for the property located at 7834 Main Street. Motion was seconded by Alderman Cannon and carried. Vote by Alderman Cannon and carried. Vote 3-0. the Town. 2-1. IX. Public Comment. No Public Comments. X. Police Report was presented by Chief. Jenkins. Congratulations to Beverly Drake and Vernon Edwards. Plate sales were down this year. Would like to thank the VFW, Alderman Thad Jones and Elijah Watson for their help with the plate sale. Wewill be starting thel DARE program back at Vanceboro Farm Life Elementary School soon. Officer Baker will bel leaving the department to go to the Pamlico County Sheriff's Department. We wish him well in his future endeavor. XI. Mayor's Report. Birthdays this month include Public Works employee John Raines and my wife Jo-lynne Braxton. Former Public Works employee Darian Rogers passed away this past weekend. Alderman Russell Ipock lost a sister this past week. Our thoughts and prayers go out tol both of these families. Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms, we couldn't do it without you. The next Board of Alderman Meeting will be held on June 6"h. We will have a ribbon cutting ceremony for the little frèe library house at 6:45 p.m. before the June meeting. Recycling pickup will be on May 26". License plate reader has been installed at the ABC Store. Next budget workshop will bel May gth at 6 p.m. Thank you to Alderman Belrose and his wife for getting the City ofl New Bern to come sweep our streets. We'd also like to thank them for planting flowers at the stop light and at the Richard W. Bower's park. We appreciate all they do tol keep the' Town looking pretty. The Vanceboro Strawberry Festival will be this Saturday with the parade starting at 10 a.m. Met with Jonathan Russell to finish up the grant application, we are applying for $9 million in grants to help with our Water and Wastewater Plants. Recipients of this grant will be acknowledged sometime in July. We received $1,295 from Debt Setoffin April. Alderman McMillen submitted our grant application to the Bate Foundation to possibly build our shelter for the park. Congratulations to Brent Manning, Pastor ofWest Vanceboro Church of God, for filling Stephanie King's seat on the Board of Meeting Minutes May 2, 2022 Education. Ifeel that he will be a great asset to have on the Board for District 1. The Town Hall will be closed on May 30th in observance of] Memorial Day. XII. Alderman Reports. sidewalks. Thank you to Vernon Edwards for his service of 45 years to the Town. The Vanceboro Strawberry Festival will start off with the parade at 10 a.m. We have 45 vendors signed up sO far and we still have more coming in. We will have bouncy houses, helicopter, and the K-9 unit for the Craven County Sheriff's Office will be at the event. The library will bel having a shelter installed on the right side oft the building, ata a cost of 75K-80K. They received a grant for $24,000 which purchased new book cases and shelves. XIII.
