TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on March 6, 2023 at 7:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Steve Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Russell Ipock, and Alderman Todd McMillen. Those Absent: Alderman Thad Jones. III. Invocation by Alderman Ipock. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval ofr minutes from last meeting. Alderman McMillen made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Ipock and carried. Vote 4-0. VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Ipock made a motion toj pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Cannon and carried. Vote 4-0. VII. Public Comment. No public comments. VIII. Craven County Crime Stoppers. Jeffrey Haddock the president of the new Craven County Crime Stoppers introduced himself, along with board members. Their mission is to reduce crimes within Craven County and make a positive impact on IX. Sealed Bid. Two sealed bids were received for the backhoe. One in the amount of $878.29 and another for $1,650.00. Alderman McMillen made a motion to reject sealed bids. Motion was seconded by. Alderman Belrose and carried. Vote 4-0. X. Resolution to Approve Even Year Elections. Alderman Belrose made a motion to approve even year elections. Motion was seconded by Alderman McMillen and the community around us. carried. Vote 4-0. XI. Resolution to Approve Use of Cemetery Funds. Alderman Ipock made a motion to approve use of cemetery funds. Motion was seconded by Alderman McMillen and XII. Police Report was presented by Chief Keys. I quoted a new radar sign, and the price is $3,360.00. Having this sign will be very useful in helping us monitor and record data from both directions of traffic. Corporal Herring and Sergent Sheldon completed their trainings last month and are scheduled for more in the coming months along with myself and Officer Hess. We have had an increase of calls coming out of the Oaks Apartments. Recent calls have been for fights, larceny, drug activity and juvenile complaints. We are in constant communication with the property manager tol help reduce calls and we have increased our presence in that area. This year at the Strawberry Festival we will be selling t-shirts and vanity plates. We are going away from the calendars, so we are. hoping this will generate funds to directly carried. Vote 4-0. support our department. XIII. Mayor's Reports. I met with the postmaster about the water bills. The bills leave here and go to Fayetteville. He spoke with them about calibrating the postage machine. Hopefully they will now be received in one) piece. Town resident Frank Anderson passed away, my thoughts and prayers go out to the family. We received the extra $5,499.00 for the SRO from Craven County. Tax revaluation has increased about 25 to 30%. We will get final numbers for the budget workshop to figure up the Town's tax rate. The 160D was approved for lyear because of the population being less than 1,500. We are in the closing stages. Town Clerk: is still recuperating. Thanks to Brittany for her hard work and keeping the wheels turning. XIV. Alderman Reports. Alderman Cannon stated the Strawberry Festival will be held on May 6. Friday night there will be a pre-festival with rides and any food trucks that would like to setup the night before. Iappreciate the Chief for getting the invitation letters sent out to all the surrounding agencies to assist with the festival. Iwould like to explore the option of having someone come in regularly to clean the building. Id do not feel staff should have to do it. Alderman Belrose had no comment. directing funeral traffic? Alderman Ipock questioned what part does the Town play in assisting with Alderman McMillen commended Terry Morris and his crew for the direction and guidance provided with the shelter. There is still work to done as far as landscaping. Ithank Chris and Pernell for placing the sod. We had a birthday party at the shelter this past weekend. To guarantee: availability I would like people to be able to go online to reserve and possibility charge a fee. The Bate Foundation has been good to us andIwould like to show recognition at the park with a plaque. XV.
