TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on May. 1, 2023 at 7:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Steve Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Thad Jones, Alderman Russell Ipock, and Alderman Todd McMillen. II. Invocation by Alderman Jones. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman McMillen made a motion to approve. minutes as corrected. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Belrose made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 5-0. VII. Public Hearing - General Statue 160D Town of Vanceboro Zoning Ordinance. carried. Vote 5-0. Alderman Ipock made a motion to open public hearing. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 5-0. There were no residents present to speak for the Public Hearing. Alderman McMillen made a motion to close public hearing. Motion was seconded Alderman Jones made a motion to adopt the General Statue 160D - Town of Vanceboro Zoning Ordinance. Motion was seconded by Alderman McMillen and by Alderman Cannon and carried. Vote 5-0. carried. VIII. Public Comment. No public comments. IX. Police Report was presented by ChiefKeys. The spring break pig picking was a huge success and we raised more than enough money to fund our National Night Out. Officer Hess will bel leaving the department on May 5th to join the military. We wish him well on his future endeavors. Corporal Herring and myself willl be visiting Craven Community College to speak with the BLET classes in hopes of recruiting a new officer for this position. National Night Out will be. August 5h. We will be hosting another event, Vanceboro Summer time. Jerk Fest on June1ltf from1 1:00- 4:00 p.m. We are selling t-shirts for $18 to help purchase new equipment for the department. Corporal Herring completed the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and immediately stopped a subject who was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested. Wej phased out our old Sig duty weapons and replaced them with new Glocks. West Minster group is searching for a new property manager for the Oaks and Bailey Lane Apartments. We are teaming up with Stykn Fyns Charter to host a fishing tournament on July 15th. More details to come on this event. X. Mayor's Reports. Hope everyone. had a good Easter. Vanceboro Strawberry Festival should go well this weekend, this is the last year that the Vanceboro Rescue Squad will be putting this event on. Birthdays this month include public works employee John Raines and my wife,Jo-Lynne Braxton. Recycling will be on May 25th this month. Next Board of Alderman meeting will be held on. June 5th. May 9th, will be our: first budget workshop at 6 p.m. The Town Hall will be closed on May 29thin observance of Memorial Day. We collected $1,396.39 in Debt Setoff this month. We received $3,500 for the old backhoe. The shelter should bej placed at the Water Plant soon for the new backhoe. The lot beside the Vanceboro Cemetery has been mowed and we will monitor throughout the grass mowing season. The house located beside Wells Fargo has started renovations. Thank you to Alderman Belrose and his wife for planting the flowers at the stop light and at Richard W. I'd like to thank the City of] New Bern and Alderman Belrose's wife for getting the City of New Bern to sweep our streets before the Strawberry Festival. I'd like to remind everyone to keep your grass mowed throughout the season to keep the Town Bowers Park. looking great. XI. Alderman Reports. Alderman McMillen had no comment. Alderman Jones had no comment. Meeting Minutes May 1,2023 Alderman Ipock congratulated Beverly Drake for 15, years of service with the' Town. He thanked Alderman Cannon for all of his work with the Vanceboro Strawberry Alderman Belrose was thankful for the rain we have had, it has helped to keep the plants looking well in the park and at the stop light. He asked Public Works Supervisor had he got a quote on hauling sludge from the drying beds. Vernon stated that he hadn'tgot a quote yet but he would get one when we are ready to do Alderman Cannon stated that the Strawberry Festival is ready to go. Vendor fees increased this week. All vendors need toj pick up their paperwork at Town Hall up until event time this week. Alderman Belrose and' Tom Toler of the VFW will help mark the vendor booths with white paint. Ride fees will go on sale for Friday nights event on Facebook. The event will be from 5:00-9:00 p.m. We will have two strawberry farms represented at the event. Weather looks to be favorable for the event. Iappreciate Brittany Mumford and Beverly Drake for keeping up with the registrations. Our final meeting for the event is tomorrow night. The Vanceboro Strawberry Festival banners were placed throughout Town. The library board met and will be reaching out to the Mayor and Board of Alderman toj present an addition to the library. They held al Fun with Friends event on April 22"d and they are raffling off a Summer-theme basket on June1*t. You may purchase tickets for XII. Clerk -] Budget Amendment #1.
