TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on July 10, 2023 at 7:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Thad Jones, Alderman Russell Ipock, and Alderman Todd McMillen. Those Absent: Alderman Steve Belrose III. Invocation by Alderman Cannon. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman Jones made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman McMillen and carried. Vote 4-0. VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Ipock made a motion toj pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 4-0. VII. Public Comment. Irvin McGee- Property owner of215. NC Hwy 43 stated US Cellular would like to erect a cell tower behind the fire department. He wanted to address any questions or concerns with the board. VIII. Police Report was presented by Corporal Herring. We are currently waiting for paperwork to come back for an applicant. Contact was made this past Friday and we were: advised that the current turn around time is about one month. We appreciate all the support shown at the Jerk Fest. With the money raised we purchased new holsters and flashlights for the new Glocks. The Backing the Blue fishing tournament is this coming Saturday. This event is being put on by Brandon Jones to help benefit the Police Department. There has been an increase in larcenies in the area. Most of these larcenies are occurring at night out of buildings and vehicles that have been Ieft unlocked. One subject has been arrested. Everything is good to go for National Night Out on August 5th. Ifthere is inclement weather that day, the event will move to the following Saturday. Nineteen grass citations were IX. Resolution to approve the Local Water Supply Plan. Alderman Ipock made a motion to approve the Local Water Supply Plan. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones X. Mayor's Reports. The two police trailers were moved to the Wastewater Treatment Plant. II hope everyone had a safe and fun filled July 4th. Birthdays this month include Alderman McMillen, Alderman Belrose, Sergeant Sheldon, and myself. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family ofJames Whitford who passed away. Even year elections have now been approved for 2024. Town Clerk is out recuperating from surgery. .It thank Brittany for being able to handle everything solo. The shelter has been erected for the new backhoe. The next meeting will be on August 7th and the next recycle will be on July 20th. The roofwork has started at issued one day last week. and carried. Vote 4-0. Town Hall. XI. Alderman Reports. Alderman McMillen stated the Christian Help Center will bel having a candlelight vigil for Overdose Awareness Day on August 31stat 6 pm. It was also questioned if Alderman Jones recommended getting a metal panel box that could locked at the shelter once electricity is added. Doing sO will help prevent vandalism. Alderman Ipock questioned ifany roads were being paved this year. the shelter needed some type of lighting. Alderman Cannon stated the Friends of the. Library will be having movie night on July 27th. The Strawberry Festival items have been moved to the Water Treatment Plant. The Rescue Squad has asked ifthe' Town will allow them to use the tents in XII. Closed Session. Alderman McMillen made a motion to go into closed session in accordance with NCGS 143-318.11(a)(6) to discuss some potential land acquisition. Motion was seconded by Alderman Ipock and carried. Vote 4-0. XIII. Open Session. Alderman Cannon made a motion to go back into open session. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 4-0. seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 3-0. XIV. There being no further business we dismissed at 8:28 p.m. case of a disaster. Motion to purchase land for $62,000 was made by Alderman Cannon.
