VANC TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on October 2, 2023 at 7:00 PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Thad Jones, Alderman Russell Ipock, and Alderman Todd McMillen. Those Absent: Alderman Steve Belrose. II. Invocation by Alderman Ipock. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval ofr minutes from last meeting. Alderman Jones made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Ipock and carried. Vote 4-0. VI. Approval ofC Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Ipock made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 4-0. VII. Public Comment. Andrew Black- - 805 College Street - stated that he wanted tickets issued to those William Gibbons - 238 Grand Avenue = stated that there are, holes by Grand Avenue and West Railroad Street and there needs to be dirt added or rock. who do not have peddler's license and sets up in town. VIII. Police Report was presented by Mayor Braxton. Mayor Chad Braxton presented the police report because Chief Keys is feeling under the weather. The radar came in from the Governor's Highway Safety points and will bei installed in the Silverado. The investigation by the SBI and DA's office is concluded for the Paw Paw's incident, there was no foul play involved. They will bel hosting a campaign for speeders along Farm Life. Avenue. IX. Years of Service/Retirement Celebration for Pernell Fields. Mayor Braxton presented Public Works Employee with a plaque from the Town of Vanceboro for his 25 years ofservice to the Town and his upcoming retirement at the end of this year. Family and friends were invited to stay after the meeting and have cake and refreshments. X. Mayor's Reports. Happy Birthday to our Town Clerk, Beverly Drake, celebrating on Thursday. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of] Billy Whitford Sr, Alderman Ipock's Father-in-law. He ran the Ford Motor Company back in 1960s, in the building across the road from the Town Hall. It was used as a help center back during the flood. He will be missed in this community. Our thoughts and prayers also go out to Alderman McMillen in thel loss of his Father-in-law. Next recycling date will be October 12th. Board of Alderman meeting will be on November 6"h. The picnic shelter at Bowers Park now has electricity, which will be nice when we have functions here at the Town Hall. Wev will be organizing a committee for the Strawberry Festival; Christie Arrington would like to be chairman in heading this event. Alderman Belrose has stated that he would like to help with this event as well. Dr. Greg Murphy, Congressman, had to cancel his event for this week at the VFW and it will be rescheduled for November gtat 6 p.m. We received our quotes for the ditch work throughout town from' Turnage Construction; it came in at $8500. Coastal Dragline also sent a quote of $3000 to removed limbs and debris from our site out at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. We paid $500 tol have a tree removed at the Vanceboro Christian Help Center. XI. Alderman Reports. Alderman McMillen asked how long it would be before the construction of our electronic sign out front of the' Town Hall. Alderman Jones had no comment. Alderman Ipock congratulated. Assistant Clerk Brittany Mumford on 5 years of service to the Town. He also stated there were limbs out at Celestial Memorial Gardens that needed cutting. Hallelujah Night will be October 31"a at Vanceboro Alderman Cannon stated that Friends of the Library would be hosting a movie night on October 28th at 6:30 p.m. in the vacant lot beside Kent's BBQ.
