TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on April 1, 2024 at 7:00PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Steve Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Thad Jones, and Alderman Russell Ipock. Those. Absent: Alderman Todd McMillen. III. Invocation by Alderman Belrose. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman Ipock made a motion to approve minutes as corrected. Motion was seconded by Alderman Belrose and carried. Vote VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Ipock made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Cannon and carried. Vote 4-0. 4-0. VII. Public Comment. No Public Comments. VIII. Water System. AIA Grant Approval. Alderman Cannon made a motion to accept the funding offer and acceptance of the $150K grant for the water system. Motion was seconded by Alderman. Jones and carried. Vote 4-0. IX. Resolution- Authorization to submit Water grant for improvements to Water Plant. Alderman Ipock made a motion to submit the resolution to apply for water grant. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 4-0. Authorization to submit Wastewater grant for improvements to Wastewater Plant. Alderman Jones made a motion to submit the resolution to apply for wastewater grant. Motion was seconded by Alderman Cannon and carried. Vote 4-0. X. Fortiline Waterworks. Mr. Dayton Rugg and Mr. Mike Gartsu were here and presented a presentation on Fortiline Waterworks meters. Mr. Rugg also gave the Alderman and Mayor five different quotes regarding the meters that they have XI. Police Report was presented by Chief Keys. The suspects involved in the breaking and entering case in Stewart Park have been identified and located. None of the suspects were from here but one did have ties to the Vanceboro area. I'd like to thank the FBI and the Greenville PD: for their assistance inl locating and apprehending the suspects. Officer Johnson has completed his radar training time. P'I be attending the instructor course at Craven Community College, once this is complete, I can get certified as a firearms instructor. We will then be able to complete our firearms qualifications without needing assistance from another agency. Wewill be involved with a multi-agency saturation patrol in the New Bern area on April 6th. The purpose of this is to detect violations of motor vehicle laws and well as assist with Dwi's. Corporal Herring updated the Alderman on the citations written this month. The citations totaled $620 in fines for the Town. XII. Mayor's Reports. Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter holiday with family and friends. Birthdays this month is our Assistant Clerk, Brittany Mumford. May 6th will be our next Board of Alderman meeting. May 23rd will be our next recycling date. Ifanyone has any questions regarding their recycling, you may contact Craven County Solid Waste and Recycling at 252-636-6659. April 22nd, will be our first budget workshop for the 24-25 fiscal year. We received $296.08 from Debt Setoff this month. Iattended the Friends oft the Library meeting; I'd like to thank Julie Cannon for her work on the library board. The library is still looking for a librarian. I'm happy with the direction the library is going, they are doing a great job. May 3rd and 4th will be the Vanceboro Strawberry Festival. From the primary election it looks like Patty Mason will be our District 1 representative for the Board ofl Education for our: area. Thank you to Alderman Belrose for getting the City of New Bern to bring their street sweeper to sweep our streets in Town. The Strawberry festival banners were placed throughout town. Icontinue to utilize the phone tree and the electronic sign toj put out messages to our residents. Ifyou see anyone littering, please report it to authorities, it makes the Town look bad with trash thrown out. Take pride in our Town and the way it looks. We will be searching for another vendor to supply the mulch at the Richard W. Bowers Park. available. XIII. Alderman Reports. Alderman Jones had no comment. hired on a probationary period. Meeting Minutes Alderman Ipock inquired of the new employee that replaced Pernell Fields. He was April 1,2024 Alderman Belrose had no comment. Alderman Cannon thanked ChiefKeys and thel Police department for a job well Public Works Supervisor, Vernon Edwards stated that the softeners and filters work at the Water Treatment Plant will begin on. April 16th. Please spread the word to minimize water usage during this process. We have permission to tie into Craven done. County Water ifn necessary. XIV.
