TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on May 6, 2024 at 7:00PM in the Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Steve Belrose, Alderman Keith Cannon, Alderman Russell Ipock, Alderman Thad Jones, and Alderman Todd McMillen. III. Invocation by Alderman Ipock. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman McMillen made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jones and carried. Vote 5-0. VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Belrose made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Ipock and carried. Vote 5-0. VII. Public Comment. Shawn Stengele & Donny Moore or Cruddy Cans stated that they would like an opportunity toj present to thel Board of Alderman a proposal for curbside waste removal for the' Town of Vanceboro once our contract is up with GFL Environmental. VIII. Clerk. Blaine Humphrey of] Rivers & Associates was here to answer: any questions regarding the. AIA Grant agreement. Alderman Jones made a motion that we go into the agreement with Rivers & Associates for our asset inventory for the water system. Motion was seconded by Alderman Ipock and carried. Vote 5-0. Craven Correctional Institute is taking orders for NCLETR merchandise to support the Special Olympics. Calll Beverly Drake at the' Town Hall 252-244-0919 to IX. Police Report was presented by ChiefKeys. Corporal Herring has resigned his position with the department. We'd like to thank him for his 3 years of service to the Town. Sargent Sheldon will not be returning to duty due to his illness; we wish him the best in his recovery. We have a new officer starting this week. With 10+ years of experience we'd like to welcome Dustin Winnings to the department. We have one position open with the Police Department that still needs to be filled. The new patrol car should be completed soon at B &G. I'd like to thank all agencies that came and assisted with the Strawberry Festival this past weekend. It wasa a Officer Johnson stated that they had written $1200 in citations over the last month X. Mayor's Reports. We have a new employee for our Public Works Department, Nicholas Crosby. Birthdays this month include Public Works employee John Raines. Our thoughts and prayers go out to our former Alderman David Dunn in the loss of his father. Next Board of Alderman meeting will be held on June 3rd. Next recycling datei is May 23rd. Vanceboro Strawberry Festival went very well, we had lots ofvendors, great weather and it was well attended. I'd like to thank Christie Arrington, Alderman Belrose and Alderman McMillen for all of theirwork with the festival. Thank Beverly and Brittany for getting all the vendors together for the festival. Thanks to the Public Works and Michael Bryant for making the town look great. Special thanks to the City of New Bern for bringing their street sweeper to sweep our streets before the festival. Thank you to all that participated in any way. We will meet on May 14th for our last festival meeting to list the pros/cons sO we will bel better prepared for next year. The Vanceboro Public Library is still seeking a librarian. Our next budget meeting will bel May 20th at 6 p.m. We will present the proposed budget at the June 3rd, meeting. Thank you to Alderman Belrose for collecting all communication cable that had been left around Update from Public Works Director, Vernon Edwards on the water softeners/filter at the Water Treatment Plant. One part of the softener/filter process is complete, all testing requirements have been met and it is back online. The second part has been disinfected and we should be testing again soon. Once we have acceptable Iattended the Community Resource Council for Craven Correctional, they are still in need of officers. Iattended the Craven County Parks and Recreation meeting. The lights for the last field will probably be delayed for another year, due to the budget not allowing it at this time. Special Olympics will bel held May 16th in Havelock. Craven County is offering two camps over the summer at Vanceboro get your orders in today. very successful and safe event. for speeding, stop sign violations and etc. town. We collected $3,932.40 through Debt Setoff this month. results the project will be complete. Meeting Minutes May 6, 2024 Farm Life Elementary, there is one for crafts and one for PE. Information is available for the camps at the' Town Hall. XI. Alderman Reports. Alderman McMillen suggested we run a campaign from June through August for the Yard of thel Month here in Town. I'd like to thank Christie Arrington, VSF committee, Police and Public Works for all their hard work. We learned a lot for the' Town's first time in charge of the festival, and the weather was great. I've heard great comments from our residents. Thank you to the clerks and the mayor for Alderman Jones appreciates everyone for their hard work with the festival. Alderman Ipock inquired of the road being repaired on Mill Road. The mayor stated that it would be repaired in this upcoming budget. Ialso wanted to inquire about the camper on Mill Rd, beside the railroad tracks. Iattended the ACTS meeting at Cherry Point, it was very informative. Senator Jim Perry stated that 500 jobs will be added at Cherry Point. There will also be 500 new jobs coming to the Global Transpark in Kinston. That is great news for Eastern NC. $400 Million dollars are being appropriated to Eastern NC. They are planning to start a program to reach middle school students and place them in positions at Cherry Point when they graduate. The air show is at Cherry Point this weekend. VSF was very nice, Iappreciate all the efforts and time put in to make it successful. P'd like to thank Alderman Cannon for all his work throughout the years. Alderman Belrose stated that the Strawberry Festival should profit around $5,000. I'd like to see that money roll forward to the next year tol help improve the festival. Christie. Arrington did a great job as Chairperson of the festival. Thanks to Beverly and Brittany and everyone for pulling together to make it a success. Alderman Cannon inquired of using the lot the Town purchased beside the WWTP toj place the limbs. Friends of the Library are selling tickets for a gift basket, stop by and help support our library. The Town has done a great job removing trees and limbs. As the past Chairperson of the Strawberry Festival, II know what it takes to make it happen. Ithought the festival went great, everyone put in the work, and I am proud ofyou all. Thanks to Chief Keys and the other agencies in providing Public Works Supervisor, Vernon Edwards stated that our Public Works employee, Nicholas Crosby, lost his dad last night unexpectedly.
