Grants are time consuming work with no guarantee; Ihave been working night shift with Officer Hicks. Officer Hicks will be released from field training in the next week or sO, Officer Guinn's last shift at Sugar Mountain Police Department will be. July 21.will be working the vacant night shift until that position ist filled. Officer Brown and Buchanan have been working on two applicant's background: and certification paperwork. lam hopeful to have two new police officercertified soon to fill our open positions. Both of these applicants have experience with othera agencies. The certification process is very work filled and time consuming. Sugar Mountain Police Department has a great team everyone is pitching ina and helping in every aspect of the Department We have been busy answering call for service, and patrolling the Village. July 4t"H Holiday went well. assisted the Reserve POA, with traffic access, Officer Hicks and Officer Brown worked extra duty this day also.. July has started off as a busy month. Some speeding citations have been issued, and we have made two DWlarrest. Our Officers are working diligently to keep the Village streets safe. Our officers have been working to slow the traffic down in the Village. This is a top priority. Iwill soon be ordering a speed radar sign that will assist in informing motorist of driving speeds. This sign will be On 07/07/2023 around midnight Chief Turbyfill and Officer Hicks while patrolling, located a suspicious vehicle parked off Grouse Moor Drive, near thei intersection. ChiefTurbyfill and Officer Hicks located a male subject that had succumbed to a selfi inflected gunshot wound. Chief Turbyfill, Officer Hicks, with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation processed the scene and collected evidence. The family oft the deceased was notified oft thei findings the same morning.
