Sugar Mountain Police Department POLICE THE VILLAGE 6 OF MOUN 251 Dick' Trundy Lane Sugar Mountain, North Carolina 28604 (828)898-4349 chief@seesugar.com Chief Casey Turbyfill REPORT TO VILLAGE COUNCIL May 15, 2024 Officer David Buchanan has tendered his resignation to accept a position at Newland Police Department. Officer David Buchanan began his full-time employment in September 2023 and his last day here will be 5/26/2024. We wish him the best in his future career. Officer. Joe Buchanan, Officer Osborne and I will cover night shifts during the next couple months. Iwill be covering shifts for Officer's vacations, and transition to night shift l'am pleased to announce that we have extended a conditional offer to Michael Linkous. He will be graduating Basic Law Enforcement Training at Mayland on 5/17/2024. Michael Linkous 22 years old, from Elk Park, I believe he will to be a great fit for our Department. The certification, paperwork and field training to follow will take several weeks to complete. Michael Linkous once for the month of June. trained will work the night shift. Our Officers have been working to slow traffic down in the Village. Several motorists have been warned for speeding infractions, State citations are also being issued. Iwould like to ask all motorists to drive safely, on Village Streets; many pedestrians are out enjoying the beauty of the Village. An Investigation into the larceny of a utility trailer from the Grouse Moor Drive area has concluded with no leads. Ihave included information about Flock Safety cameras that I believe would be a great asset in surveillance and investigations for the Police Department. Several years ago a plan was in place to install cameras at the Village entrances, due to technology at that time the plan never came full circle. With the unique lay out of the Village only two cameras would be needed to capture ingress and egress of all vehicles Into Sugar Mountain. These cameras would capture vehicle entering and exiting the two entrances, along with License Plate Reading technology to help locate vehicles of interest. The system subscription for two cameras cost is $6000 yearly with a onetime installation cost of $1,400. This would also give the Police Department access to the Flock Safety camera system nationwide. All maintenance, installation, data and storage is included in the yearly cost. Other agencies in the county are also looking into the use of Flock Safety cameras. Included are our monthly calls for service, speed data from 5/1-5/14 on Grouse Moor Drive for your review.
