The Police Department scheduled additional officers from Monday, December 26thi through Monday,lanuary: 2nd, as well ast the Public' Works staff was on call as needed. There were no major incidents and all of our officers along with Bill Daniels did an excellent job with traffic control. Chief Turbyfill is to be commended for the Tourism Development Authority (TDA) Board Meeting: The TDA Board met on Wednesday, January 11th. The occupancyt tax collections fort the period December 2021t through November 2022 ($1,034,766) have shown a $83,927 or 8.83% increase in comparison to the same period of Banner Elk Fire Rescue: The Banner Elk Fire & Rescue Department has completed another busy year and tackled some very challenging issues in our fire district. Chief Tyler Burr will be at our January 17th Council meeting to give a department update and answer any questions anyone may Freedom Life Avery: Avery County is in the process of opening a Freedom Life Avery office. Freedom Life Avery is a program to help with the drug crisis here in the County by aiding in the transitional needs for Avery citizens who want to make a change in their life. Whether it's transitioning back into the community from incarceration or rebuilding a brand-new life, Freedom Life Avery will be there to help. Property Tax Collections: Of the $1,380,123 total 2022 levy, $1,311,581 or 95.03% has been collected with al balance of $68,542 uncollected through January 12th. An uncollected balance of $4,622 remains for the years 2013-2021. Kudos to Tammy!
