We will host a tournament of 80 ASU players in the morning and the course will open to the public at 1PM. Golf Maintenance has constructed a new tee on #10 and renovated bunkers on several holes. Tri-County Paving is working on the resurfacing of several cart paths. This work is estimated at $19,365. We anticipate our new fleet of 55 Club Car golf carts to be delivered in mid-May. Our current 55 EZ Go carts will be sold to a vendor in Georgia in the amount of $214,500. The 2023 golf rates are posted on the' Village website - www.seesugar.com/gol: The average rate increase from last year is 8% on green and cart fees, and 6% on annual season 2023 Tennis Season: The opening day for the 2023 Tennis Season is Monday, May 15th. Staffhave begun preparing the courts for play. Carolina Water will be replacing a water line between the courts in the upcoming weeks and Phillip Sisco will landscape the area for the season following the completion of the project. Tennis rates have not been increased for several years and as everything else has increased, it is necessary to do the same with Tennis this year. The 2023 tennisr rates are posted on the Village website- - wwwseugar.om/enns The average increase Property Tax Collections: Of the $1,380,123 total 2022 levy, $1,371,972 or 99.41% has been collected with a balance of $8,151 uncollected through April 14th. An uncollected balance of $2,516 remains for the years 2013-2021. Taxes were due on/or postmarked by Thursday, January 5, 2023; all past due accounts are accruing penalties and interest at this time. A listing ofa all unpaid real property taxes was advertised int the Avery. Journal newspaper on' Wednesday, April 12th. Courtyard by Marriott: After two plus++ years of working through several obstacles; inj particular, water and sewer from Carolina Water; the developer from Winston-Salem is cautiously optimistic they are a step closer to moving forward with the development of a Courtyard by Marriott. After anticipating Carolina Water was going to sign the necessary documents in December, they are ready to bei finalized at this time. The developers have submitted the stormwater and erosion control plans to the NC Department of Environmental Quality for approval. The hotel will be on the parcel next to the Lowe's Foodsi in the Grandfather Center. They will be required to apply for a Village special use permit from the passes. is 20% on general rates and 11% on the various membership rates. Board of Adjustment in addition to the Village'sz zoning permits. Village Street Paving: Tri-County Paving has begun repairs and resurfacing of several areas throughout the Village. Much oft the work will be on Grouse Moor Drive. This work is estimated at $44,035. Tri-County has also completed the paving of the parking area at the Public Works Board of Adjustment: The Village has received an application for a variance from the property owner of Lot 73, Rock Spring Circle. The owner requests a variance to the Village's required setbacks due to the cliff and rock outcropping on the lot that make it unbuildable within the current setbacks. The Board of Adjustment will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, April 25th at Tourism Development Authority (TDA) Board Meeting: The TDA Board met on Wednesday, April 12th. The Board approved a 2023 Golf Course Landscaping contract with Phillip Sisco in the amount of $8,670. The Board also approved the purchase of additional "all season" banners for our decorative light poles. Mark File submitted the attached March 2023 marketing update. The February 2023 collections of the occupancy tax showed a decrease of 12% in comparison to February 2022. The occupancy tax collections for the period March 2022 through February 2023 ($998,394) have shown a $5,039 or < 1% increase in comparison to the same period of 2022 NC Apprenticeship Program: As previously reported, Chief Turbyfill applied for the Village to be enrolled in the NC Apprenticeship Program in conjunction with Mayland Community College. Chief Turbyfill has received notification this week that the Village has received a provisional registration. Madison Hicks, whoi is currently int the BLET program at Mayland, is eligible to participate in this program and the Village has been awarded funds int the amount of $22,000 to assist with training costs and wage reimbursement. The Chief will submit regular reports indicating her training progress and achievement of various law enforcement certificates. The program will reimburse the Village for 50% of the wages paid to the Avery County Government Public Input Sessions: National Opioid Settlement - Avery County requests community input on how to use! $1.71 million int funds over 18 years from the National Opioid Settlement.
