Sanford Parks Advisory Committee Sanford City Hall - West End Conference Room 225 El Weatherspoon St, Sanford NC June 17, 2024 4:00pm Meeting Minutes The following people were present AIF Roethlisberger Carson Wilson Chad Spivey Crystal Williams Derek Borrell Mark Lyczkowski Non-Voting Attendees Nick Fortune Kelli Ladaute Walter Ferguson Call to order Approval of Minutes approved by the committee. New Business Meeting was called to order at 4:00pm by Crystal Williams. Motion made by Mark Lyczkowski to approve minutes from previous meeting, unanimously Nick Fortune gave a brief update on the extension of the Greenway. Nick explained that we did not receive the PARTF grant from a previous application and we will be trying to apply to the Great Trails this year to help secure easements and finish the design work. Mark stated that he could assist with the easements and has been working on how to present to Council. Nick stated the stage at Kiwanis Family Park is still under construction buti is moving forward. Everything should be completed and ready by July 4th for Freedom Fest. Just waiting on Event updates provided by Nick included the opening day of splash pad in May had about 600 attendees and the back to school event in August is currently still ini the planning stage. This year it will be moved to Kiwanis Family Park so trying to figure out how that will look. Nick brought up for discussion the vision for the committee moving forward. The parks master plan has been completed and the committee was a large part in helping to develop the master plan. Al mentioned we need further discussion about the vision and goals of the committee. Al stressed the importance of the committee influence and that the influence needs to continue. Discussion amongst the committee regarding changing the meeting frequency. Mark made a motion to move the committee meetings to quarterly with monthly updates via email from Nick, seconded by Derek Borrell. Al stated that he thought quarterly was a bit too long to go between meetings and thought the bi monthly meetings would be a better idea. electrical to finish up and put down sod. A vote was taken amongst the committee for quarterly over bimonthly with 3 to 3 results. A vote was taken amongst the committee for bimonthly over quarterly with 3to 3 results. After further discussions about meeting frequency after the two tied votes, Al made a motion to move to quarterly meetings with meetings as needed and monthly reports from City staff. This Next meeting will be July 15th at 4:00 pm ini the West End Conference Room at City Hall. motion was unanimously approved by the committee. Next Meeting Comments None.
