PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Dr. Sanford Cates graduated from Appalachian State University in 1975 with a degree in Industrial Education and returned to his home town of Roxboro, N.C., to teach vocational education at WHEREAS, Dr. Sanford Cates changed his course in life to achieve his goal ofbecoming a dentist and was accepted to Creighton' - University, Boyne School C ofDental Science where he graduated in 1984; and WHEREAS, Dr. Sanford Catesp performed his Dental Residency on Macy Indian Reservation from 1984 WHEREAS, Dr. Sanford Cates bought his dental practice in 1985 and moved it to the City of WHEREAS, Dr. Sanford Cates, along with members ofthe. Dental Society, founded the first free clinic, the Mercer Clinic, in Asheboro, N.C., and Dr. Cates volunteered his time and expertise providing free WHEREAS, Dr. Sanford Cates' dedication to bringing up rural healthcare systems gained national recognition when he was appointed by former President Clinton to a National Committee to discuss WHEREAS, Dr. Sanford Cates continued to serve the City of Randleman community as a Dentist and friend for over 38 years from 1985 until 2023 and always said, "Ifit's good for Randleman, it's good WHEREAS, Dr. Sanford Cates was a "man ofthe people" and always said, "my love of God, life, and WHEREAS, Dr. Sanford Cates gave back to the City ofF Randleman and the citizens in many ways over NOW THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that I, Gary B. Betts, Sr., Mayor of the City of Randleman, along with the Board ofAldermen and citizens, do hereby proclaim FEBRUARY27,2024 as DR. SANFORD CATES DAY, and encourage residents to recognize the positive impact that Dr. Person High School; and through 1985 and then moved to Randleman, N.C.; and Randleman and was the first dentist to bring preventative dentistry to Randleman; and dental care to Randolph County for many years; and policy on Rural Healthcare; and for me,"; and a long road of trials formed me into the dentist that I am,", and the years selflessly with dignity and integrity; and Sanford Cates has had on our community, and thank him for his enduring dedication.
