Brame, City Clerk    Mount Airy Parks & Recreation  Memo  To: Darren Lewis, Interim City Manager From: Peter Raymer, Parks & Recreation Director Re: Accessible Parks (AP) Grant Program Application  Date: 1-10-2024  Mount Airy Parks & Recreation is a comprehensive recreation department that strives to offer quality, accessible facilities that meet the unique needs of our  community.  The NC Division of Parks & Recreation has a new funding opportunity available: The Accessible Parks (AP) Grant Program that will assist with the development of projects that meet the unique needs of persons living with disabilities. The grant requires a $1 match for every $5 of state funds up to $500,000. Developing an inclusive playground (also known as a universal playground), a shelter by the playground and paving the gravel trail at Westwood Park has been identified in the Mount Airy Parks & Recreation Master Plan adopted in 2023 and would be the Our goal fori this project is to create a play space in which children and families of all abilities have the opportunity to play side-by-side. In order to better serve the unique needs of our community, la am seeking approval from the board to apply for this grant.
