Joe Zalescik, 1541 W. Devon Street (city resident): Congratulated Darren and Pam for their new positions. Local government is tough dealing with potholes, light poles, trash cans, etc., but the quality of services in Mount Airy are exceptional. Darren is very calm and steady. Congratulated Darren on his first personnel selection of Pam as Assistant City Manager. John Pritchard, 128 Ridgecrest Drive (city resident): Congratulated Pam Stone on her new position as Assistant City Manager. He was present at the meeting when Pam was announced Alan Bagshaw, 1022 North Main Street (city resident): The homeless point in time count was held on January 31, 2024, which captures the homeless population within the cities of North Carolina. These numbers are reported to help determine what types of finances the city gets the following year. As of yesterday, there were 40 sheltered individuals and 60 unsheltered individuals in Surry County. Some of the agencies are still working to compile the information with the numbers continuing to go up. These numbers do not included people that are in jail or in the hospital. When handing out bags last night, he was able to engage and offer future resources to those who are homeless. He encourages the City to continue to be supportive and not destructive to the professionals who are doing the work. Grant Welch, 1705 South Main Street (city resident): Mentioned that the Museum doesn't have James Easter of the Easter Brother's upstairs. He is asking for this board's help to get Mayor Cawley informed Mr. Welch that this board doesn't have the ability to require the Museum to make any decisions on what they include but he assured Mr. Welch that the as the Finance Director and now as. REMARKS BY OFFICIALS: Commissioner Koch: Congratulated Pam stone on being appointed as Assistant City Manager. This is African American History Month-he had the honor to meet one of the original Airmen known as the Red Tails over 20 years ago. He also saw recently that there was there was an African American tank battalion in WWII. Most of their action was in 1944 being in the most continuous battles than any other tank battalion in WWII. They were in Patton's Army helping in the Battle of the Bulge. They had a great record and great Commissioner Cochran: Thanked Craig Smith and others for coming tonight for the Black History Month Proclamation. Her heart leaped forj joy to hear that Pam is now the Assistant sacrifice. They can'tbel honored enough. City Manager.
