Many local governments have sought options on how best to address this growing issue both legally and practically through local government regulation. Over time, many local governments have adopted ordinances restricting locations, quantity, and requiring In April 2022, thel North Carolina Court of Appeals ruled in Schroeder V. City of Wilmington that state law prohibits ar registration requirement for short-term rentals. The court also ruled that state law allows for general zoning and development standards for short-term rentals. The Town's Land Use.
