Projects Update Park have been completed and opened to the public.  The walkway construction for both facilities will begin in early March with Custom Paving performing the Downtown Ballpark The City has committed to a market analysis and feasibility study for a Franklin Urban Sports & Entertainment (FUSE) district. The analysis and study will provide much needed information moving forward with an economic development plan for the area just west of downtown Lineberger Park / Greenway new parking area - The project is approximately 60% complete. Work should begin again in early March with the contractor completing the paving and City forces performing the landscaping and amenity placements. A late spring Maples on Main - All trees have been planted and the concrete work on South Streetl has been installed. Plans are to have the kiosks and benches installed in March Second Ave. &I Marietta St. Park Work on this project has been suspended due to the unseasonably rainy weather during the winter. ITEM2: County Township Grants  Staff apprised the Commission of the 3 Recreation No action necessary.  projects that were awarded grants through the County's 1) Smyre Park Playground Addition: The request was for $75,000 to provide a playground similar to the playground installed at Optimist Park. The County ist funding 60% ($45,000) for the project with the City committing to provide the remaining $30,000. This project should be completed byl lates summero of2016. 2) LC. Falls Park Playground Addition: The request mirrors the Smyre Playground ins scope and funding and should also be completed by late summer of2016. 3) Erwin Park Sprayground / Splashpad: The request was for $300,000 to provide a sprayground similar to the one installed at Lineberger Park. The County if funding 60% ($180,000) for the project with the City committing toj provide the remaining $120,000. The project should be completed by early summer of2017. Staff advised the approximate location fort this) project willl be near the existing pool with the permanent location to be best determined by a site assessment by the  Township Grant program. The restructure involves an organizational flow change that streamlines the department into three (3) specific identifiable areas: Programming / Athletics, Parks &Facilities, and Community Resources / Customer Service. Three positions have been reclassified: and all professional positions within the department have a refocus on their organizational duties. The restructure / refocus addresses the major issues and most all areas of concern brought out in the assessment: and wille enable the department tol keep up with the changing trends inj parks & recreation services andj provide an ongoing outline for success towards our ultimate goal of providing the best and most cost effective leisure opportunities to the Staff also announced the retirement after 35 years of service for Assistant Director, Pat Corinth, partnerships in place with individuals, service clubs, agencies, and neighborhood groups which assist inj providing valuable program opportunities fort the public.
