THETOWN OF HOPE MILLS HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE Meeting Minutes May 8, 2024 Meeting called to order at 6:26pm Committee Members Present: Teresa Davis, Sharon Reeves, Hope Page, Karen Saracen Absent Member: Roy Young - Excused questions. No opposition. Motion Carried. II. Approval of Agenda: Hope Page moved to accept the agenda. Seconded by Karen Saracen. No III. Approval of April Minutes: Teresa Davis moved to accept the April minutes. Seconded by Karen Saracen. No questions. No opposition. Motion Carried. IV. Old Business: a. Update from Chancer Mclaughlin on working meeting date with Kristi Brantley re: Commission: and certifiedl local government (CGstatus-Worishops are available-email out with information. CLG Virtual training but the person would need to come here to our area for training. Mary Duff came in late Jan/Feb 2020 = and said that the church is historic. Forms would need to be filled out to have Thomas Campbell Oakman church made historic. The approximate cost for upkeep is $5,000. No updates yet from Chancer. b. Update from Chancer Mclaughlin/Bryan Marley re: headstone cleaning in town- - owned cemeteries = as of today no updates from Bryan Marley and Don with Public Works due Historic District Inventory Update: Teresa Davis informed everyone that the inventory is d. Reprint of "Hope Mills Heritage: A Pictorial and Sentimental History of a NC Mill Town to the town owning the land only not the headstones. aworking document and sent it to the committee via email. (Deese) - Still under research and will address later. V. New Business: a. HPC Budget Proposal 2024: Budget link was provided; HPC has $5000 for the upcoming b. Town of Hope Mills Proposed Budget FY 2024-25: Budget link was provided for review: Mtnslbmatewmaheenlkse.Nmshat: Independence Day Festivities: Week of June 29-July 6 decorate in front of Chapel: For the 4thof July decorations: light décor with flags out front. Discussion of items needed as well as remaining 23/24 budget. Hope Page moved, the Committee to use the remaining balance of 23/24 budget to purchase miscellaneous items for various future events, seconded by Karen Saracen. No questions. No opposition. Motion carried. Decorations for outside: red, white, blue bunting, flags and 2 wreaths or 2 bows for the front of the church doors. The committee agreed that the decorations will be on the evening of Friday 6/28. Committee members agreed the HPC will not participate in the 4th ofJuly Parade. d. Old Mill Day October 19, 2024; Partnership with Police foundation, Parks & Rec. budget year. 25-25 THE TOWN OF HOPE MILLS HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE items needed and meal: Paper Goods, Table cloths, Lady bug for mums, light lunch at the chapel $5 tickets, head count needed and rsvp for proper food amount. Use local cater to Hope Mills for meal, no outside business preferred. Sharon will contact Debbie to go over e. Trunk or Treat: Sponsored by P & R registration begins September 1st- for information terms and discuss Event time for Ole Mill Day: 11:30-1pm purposes only at this time. December Projects: - Festival at Lake - Friday December 6at 5:30pm. Chapel Décor - Decor is on hand. Need to decide when to decorate exterior and interior. Luminaries: Need to be purchased for 2024 if this remains a project. Determine route. Trade Street: Wreaths are on hand. Need new bow. Parade: Saturday December 7 at 5pm.
