0090 THE TOWN OF HOPE MILLS HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE Meeting Minutes June 12, 2024 Meeting called to order at 6:10pm Committee Members Present: HM BOC Member Present: Elyse Craver questions. Discussion: One of the state's requirements to be recognized as a commission would be to have the towns' historic properties documented. Elyse pointed out that the town ordinance reads and is written the HPC is a commission shall be recognized asa commission, SO to be recognized by state the town can vote as town ordinance has Karen Saracen. July 4th discussion: Committee members agreed the HPC will not participate in the 4th of July Parade. Discussion: the committee voted during the May meeting to use the remaining 23/24 funds for miscellaneous items to include decorations for the 4th of July. However, the Chair was given the day (Monday) by the town to submit the request, after adhering to the day/date, the town denied the request, indicating it was not received by the cut off time, and the committee will now need to use the current year funds. Parade: Karen will speak with Brian to see ifhe will be participating in the parade as she would be participating on behalf of HPC: she willi follow-up. Elyse stated that she would purchase the banner. Teresa has small flags; Alice has flags, and the committee will see if they can b. Projects for becoming a Commission: Discussion and ideas: one of the projects is the headstone cleaning in town - owned cemeteries - as of today no updates from Marley and Don with Public Works due to the town owning the land only not Bryan headstones. Other projects discussed include town historic inventory - lengthy the consuming, also the Chapel being listed as a National Landmark (not on a time register just in historic district), to add indicating contributing and Mill Day Reunion: Old Mill Day October 19, 2024. The purpose of Ole Mill Day highlight the history of the town. There will be advance tickets for reunion lunch is to suit. The committee agreed to support local small businesses such as: Barbara follow Catering or Parkton Grill.
